I have no idea what a coot is but congratulations Small bird that looks like a duck but is actually more related to cranes that supposedly tastes like crap. I've never eaten one to find out. I have had them pop up in my decoys while duck hunting several times while I was standing up. Normally they are black colored.

They are on Squaw Lake by my house by the 1000's. I try to take my limit every time I go out. Good workout for the dogs!!

Neat bird. I have seen them before (black ones) but never had the chance to shoot one or eat one. That is certainly a unique bird.
