I post a thread like this every season because it is a challenge and so fun to do. I have a 10mm Ruger Super Redhawk and a .41 mag that I will be focused on using. I have shot a few deer with TC encores, but never with an iron sighted revolver. I will share some load developments and range reports soon. Maybe I will finally get it done this season?

I might take out my Taurus .44 mag. 8 3/8" barrel with iron sights. I dropped one last season with it. Good luck!

Had a blued one when they first came out and killed aboot 6 deer with it. Then I traded it and I should not have done that. Brand new I paid $350 for it from Rod and Reel bait shop. Years later I wanted one again and no where close to $350 for a used one! I will have my S&W 500 revolver this season again. Really want to drop one with it!

I have used Encore pistols for years. Most all in hpr calibers. Did have 454 Casull that broke scopes, rings, rail screws, and one forend. Just brutal. Cant even begin to count how many deer I took total. Almost unfair. Lol.

I am going to order Ruger's Hi-Viz front side for both Super Redhawks today. Once I install them and get some range time, I will let you all know how it goes!

I always carry my S&W 686 when hunting- never know when an up-close opportunity might come my way.

Got the Super Redhawk out today and shot some handloads and some Underwood ammo. My loads are straight from the Hornady manual. 200 XTP over 9.0 gr of BlueDot. These work well in this gun and out of my Glock 20. The Underwood loads are the 220gr Hard Cast Flat Nose at 1200fps. Both shot great and I got the rear sight dialed in so the gun is shooting how I want it to with irons. Although I know that both loads are plenty for deer, I am using the 220s as my hunting load this year. The recoil is ultra mild in this heavy gun. I am loving it!

Good info jajwrigh! I doubt I’ll have a chance to work up any loads but I like what you’ve posted! That’s a sweet looking Redhawk there!

I’ve killed a ton of deer with handguns, I’m over that now. Rather kill with a bow but will take my rifles out when it’s time.

I put a taller fiber optic front sight on the 10mm and the .41 magnum and it moved the point of impact way down on the 10mm! I readjusted the rear sight and used a tripod this time and got it really dialed in at 25 yards. I can see that front sight so much better than the red ramp sight that it came with. I am shooting it really confidently and well. I didn't get to shoot the .41 again because I forgot the ammo. I did get my 5 1/2" Super Blackhawk (.44 mag) dialed in really well at 25 yards too. It kicks significantly harder than the 10mm Super Redhawk, but I will be good with either.
If you are wondering why I am shooting at 25 yards, Ruger recommends that distance when adjusting the rear sight for windage and elevation. I can't recommend a tripod enough to get your handguns dialed in from a sitting or standing position. Heading back to the range on Tuesday to shoot the .41 with what little ammo I have for it.

I might take out my Taurus .44 mag. 8 3/8" barrel with iron sights. I dropped one last season with it. Good luck! I have the big brother to yours. Same brand, same barrel length, but mine is in .454 Casull. It doesn't "drop" deer. It knocks them to the ground. I take it almost every year as a back-up to the rifle, just in case I get the opportunity for a close shot. This year however, I think I might take a 10mm 1911, just for gits and shiggles.
