Email today from the IDNR:
Dear outdoor enthusiast,
In honor of National Hunting & Fishing Day, thank you for your contributions to conservation. Without your license purchase, we would not be able to provide countless recreational opportunities on more than 160,000 acres of public land for all Hoosiers to enjoy. We would not be able to maintain more than 430 public access sites along Indiana’s waterways and lakes. Your dollars allow us to improve wildlife habitat statewide, creating spaces for more than 750 species, including those you enjoy pursuing. We’re able to raise more than 20 million fish stocked at 400 water bodies because of you. Check out our video to see what you, and other sportsmen and sportswomen like you, have accomplished for fish and wildlife conservation.
Because of your gracious contributions, we want to make you aware of upcoming opportunities. Sept. 26 not only celebrates sportsmen and sportswomen as National Hunting & Fishing Day, but also is the last Free Fishing Day of the year and the start of Youth Deer Season. We encourage you to bring someone new along to enjoy the pastime you love. Whether it is harvesting their first deer or reeling in a big catch, we hope they enjoy it as much as you did your first time.
If you plan to visit the great outdoors soon, consider grabbing a bucket or bag and taking the five gallon challenge. This citizen-led effort was started by a group of sportsmen and sportswomen who wanted to leave the land better than they found it. Fill up a bucket with trash while you enjoy the recreational pastime of your choosing.
We hope you choose to venture outside this weekend. If you plan to share photos of your adventure on social media, consider using the hashtags #INfishwildlife, #huntIndiana and/or #fishIndiana. We hope to see you at one of our properties soon!

I got it too ... twice. Last weekend my youngest son and I got a stand and a blind set up at new property I got permission to hunt in Greene county. The plan is to take him down on Saturday, and my oldest down on Sunday. :-)
While we were down there last weekend, at about 1:00, I was standing on top of a 10-15 ft tall dirt mound assessing whether it would be a good place to put a blind ... and a forkhorn buck came strolling through about 15 yds from me, and he never looked up at me standing there in a bright red shirt (I know, they don't see red). I just watched him go by, pause and enter the woods oblivious to me standing there. The blind is setup to hunt the clearing he came through, and the stand is setup a ways inside the woods, further down the trail he went down. I'm hoping both boys get there first deer this weekend ... although I would prefer it to be a little cooler than it is predicted.
