I switched leases this year but my camera's are showing pretty low numbers on the property right now. I know that one of my cameras needs to be moved to a better are but the other camera is on an inside corner of a pinch point leading to a bean field that should be producing traffic.
Help me out with some better ideas on camera placement.
My property features two bean fields, a small creek in the middle, a larger creek on the west side border, and a ridge finger leading to the bean fields.
What are your best spots for cameras?

Is this a property that was leased out last year?

Yes, it was leased out last year. A ten-point and a doe were taken last year. The property buts up to a really large and managed farm on the other side of the west bordered creek.

With the weather as it`s been, a water source might show more?

Only reason I asked is because maybe they hunted the snot out of it or that is why they gave it up low numbers.

Couldn't agree more on the water. It's been pretty dusty for a while here in knox.

I would check the larger creek area. See if there are trails paralleling the creek.

Scout the whole lease, put the camera on the deer trail that shows the heaviest use. Check it in a few days and move it to the next busiest trail.

I have scouted the entire lease and due to the dry conditions mentioned by others, the sign isn't necessarily there either. I like the idea of placing over/near the creek bed as that may be a better source.

Is this in a county that has good deer numbers? The very northside of Putnam County. First time hunting the county but all the numbers in the data seemed reasonable. Have hunted a lot different counties in Indiana.

Have hunted a lot different counties in Indiana. I hunt Putnam County, and it`s crazy how different deer numbers and deer sightings can be even just 5-10 miles apart. The food is there, and the genetics are there too for sure. Human and dog intrusion seem to be the biggest factors for low deer sightings I`ve found, other than of course, the quality and safety of the habitat. An awful lot of dogs running loose, but, although I`m not a dog killer, I have heard more than just a couple of guys say they are.

Man, you look like a deer hunter with a TV show.
It's frustrating not having a good idea what's around. I didn't get my cameras until late this year. I really like seeing what local guys I have, but rarely see them when the party starts. Really, I'm just happy to be invited. I sent in the RSVP.
My deer seem to change trails from year to year. They run the bottom land with a creek to go back up to another food source. Lots of food around me, and in the same places. It's almost like one decides to go this way and that's the way. I need to post a sign or two, "Deer crossing Here!"

Sometimes it just pays to be lucky rather than good. I guess that's the best I can hope for this year.

I would rather be luckey than good too,but with preparation and determination you can create some of your good luck. This applies to all actions in life. Not just hunting.
