Wondering what’s y’alls strategies are with mock scrapes? When do you do them? Where do you put them? Scents?

I used to, but not much lately. All but one stand are near monster scrapes. If I make one it will be huge. A good 4 to 6 feet long and 3 to 4 feet wide. Tarsal buck gland scent and doe. Try to bring in a roaming big buck to check.

In the woods I use a 1 inch thick grape vine about 5 to 6 feet long and tie it to an overhanging limb so the end of the vine is about waste high. I then rake the ground away with a 3 prong garden tool to loosen up the soil right under the vine. I do not use any scent at these mock scrapes. I may pee in it myself to get it started. All deer bucks and does and fawns love to rub and push the vine around getting all kinds of scent on it. I start these scrapes now or even earlier in the year because the deer will work the vine all year. The below is a good scrape video for use in open fields. www.growingdeer.tv/#/easy-step-by-step-guide-to-make-mock-scrapes

My brother had to clear a log off the logging trail and the dozer made a great mock scrape under the dogwood tree. Also I checked the monster scrap that is around 15 yards from the mock scrape. A little action. This is also under a huge dogwood tree.

I`ve never tried a mock scrape, but my one hunting buddy did when we hunted together before he moved to Tennessee. He had great luck with deer coming to it, but nothing ever showed up at it during daylight.

Most time they will stay in the area. I only hunt large monster scraps and the new mock is just 15 yards away from one. Not really needed, but what the hack. Next time I will put some doe scent in it. I had no plan to make a mock this year.

I usually start them by peeing in them myself on my first day hunting usually within the first couple days season opens and I pee in them every chance I get up until the 3rd or last weekend in October I put a homemade tarsal gland, buck urine and doe urine mixture in the scrape and dripper. Then when they are going into rut I add some estrous urine into the mix.

I stopped using them. Can't say they ever helped. Ive killed deer more consistently since I stopped.
