Congrats on a successful hunt!!! Wait a minute. You shot it on Monday??? I agree with treetop!! Probably bad cell signal π No excuses for not updating when the rest of us are stuck at work π No doubt cell coverage can be iffy in a lot of areas my mom lives 5 miles from me and her cell wonβt work half the time something to do with towers and the state line and thatβs 20 miles from Fort Wayne I believe the second largest city in IN

My apologies for making you all wait. In my defense the cell coverage out there was zero. The drive back darn near did me in. 1342 miles in one shot, my two companions were under the weather so I drove all of it but 140 miles. I drew a muzzle loader tag for a bull, purchased a cow archery tag and a bear tag over the counter. My one buddy drew a cow muzzle loader tag and purchased an either sex archery tag and bear tag over the counter. The third friend only had an archery either sex tag. The method of hunting is watching water holes from dawn til about 10:30 and back out again at 3:00 til dark.
My one buddy shot his black powder cow the first morning at 45 yds. It was a less than favorable hit, a little far back, catching one lung. it took him as his guide most of the day to recover her. They put the gut pile by his stand as bear bait. The next night he had a big black sneak in from behind him. It was soooo close that when he clicked the safety off it heard him and spooked. The next night he was in a different stand and had another point blank shot at a chocolate bear and proceeded to blow that also. That ended his chances for the rest of trip.
My hunt was uneventful until Monday. This was the third stand they had me on. Three hunters had seen bulls from here but were bow hunting and never got a close enough chance. At 4:30 a cow ran out of the timber 100 yds straight across the meadow from me toward the pond. She stopped before she got to it and threw her head up, the wind had changed and she caught my scent. I had ranged the area and knew she was between 50 and 60 yds out. I had practiced a lot at 60 so I let fly with my new Wicked Ridge RDX 400. The bolt hit with a loud crack but had penetrated to the fletching. She turned around and ran back where she had come from. I could hear her breaking brush then all was quiet. About 30 seconds later I heard a crash. I stayed in the stand until dark waiting for a bull that never came. From the time I first saw her until she was back out of sight couldn't have taken 60 seconds. When the guide picked me up we found her about 60 yds in the timber. The bolt had gone through her shoulder blade. I hunted hard the rest of the time but never had another opportunity.
The other guy with us had a shot at a calf but missed. One other lady from Arkansas got a nice cow. Drew the outfitters partner "won the lottery" and drew a cow moose tag which he filled our last night in camp.
It was a very enjoyable trip.

This is a view of the stand where I killed my cow. The field recovery shot with my guide. A couple shots of the moose.
