Ended up with a limit. Private spot close to Willow Slough. Rain was tough but we got through it.

Rough day, I'm not a great shot when it comes to doves, ended up with one bird. I just gave it to my buddy that killed 11. He's a much better long shot.
Guys on our left sat on the edge of the corn without cover so the birds kept flaring, what birds didn't flair, the guys on the right shot at when they were clearly out of range and ruined our shots. Oh well, life of a public land hunter.

I hate sky busters. Guys do the same thing when duck hunting. They all seem to think they got the golden BB that will take down any duck out of range.

Had a doctors appointment this morning so by the time I got to my new untested spot the morning flight was just about over.
It was very humid with no shade so it got very warm very quick for both me and the dog.
Stayed for about an hour and got 3 birds as it started to rain.
Going back tomorrow early hoping for better results.

My dad and his buddy went out yesterday and got 21. Slow day it was, from sun up to 2pm, and I'm sure a hour break for lunch.

Got a limit. Things really picked up after the rain came through, about 5:00 bunches of 3-5 came in. I love the dove opener!

Two hours in and still nothing in the sunflower field I’m sitting in, have heard a few shots from nearby fields but not many. There’s a hawk hanging out near this field, gonna blame the lack of action on that for now to justify me being the one to pick this field.

Went to JP today. Ended up with a limit. My buddy had 13. They were flying pretty good. As always lots of sky busting going on. May go again tomorrow.

I get the dislike for sky busting ducks and geese because the idea is to get them to lock up and land. On the otherhand if we waited for doves to "come in and try to land" I don't think we'd kill half as many as we currently do. As far as doves go if you can hit it pull the trigger, maybe you're seeing it worse than I am. I let birds go to see if the guy down the line could get a better shot on them but if I felt I could make the shot I took it. Just my $.02

My issue is the guys who clearly have no chance of getting the bird but they Hail Mary anyway and even if they do they never find it. Just makes them fly higher and higher the more it happens. Screws it up for all after the first day or two. Not really thinking they’ll land just lower pas by shots that’s all. Got 8 today from JP. Lots of birds just flying high as can be.

I see them miss easy shots and then they try long shots that no one an hit. Drives me insane!

I started out the season in the wrong spot but I did manage to take a few. The second day found me closer to the X but still just short, got a few more. Yesterday I was on the X however the birds are relocating because more corn fields are being cut for silage and the birds are following, I did manage a lot better and my freezer count is growing. Hope to get out maybe Monday or Tuesday.

I’ve been dove hunting 3 times so far this year and each outing has been great. Our family owns a 160-acre agricultural field that we rent out to a farmer. This year was seed corn that they picked about a week before the dove opener which has made for great hunting. It’s got 3 irrigators on it and 2 small ponds which makes for great dove, goose, duck, etc. hunting. Two times out, I shot 12 and the other time I got a limit. I would post pics, but can’t figure out how to do it from my phone??? Lol
Also, I got drawn for a pheasant hunt on Pine Creek GBA in Benton county this year. Looking forward to that. Has anyone hunted Pine Creek before?
