Text for the Day -- Matthew 10:40-42 ---------- ‘Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.’
Devotional ---------- The prophetic word that appeared in Jesus and those who continue to bring that word into our world, play an important part in our spiritual lives. The prophetic word is spoken into the midst of human life as a call to return to the basic covenant God has established with us. That covenant calls for us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves. The word of the covenant is usually a challenge to us because we find it difficult to keep on loving God, self and others day after day. Jesus encourages us to receive the prophetic word when it comes to us because it is life for us.
Prayer ---------- Gracious God, I thank you for calling me to love you today, and my neighbor. Amen
