I was just thinking about this as well. Don’t think it’d hurt to let them all sit another year without a hunt and using the environment we currently live in would seem like a good excuse to do that.

With the uncertainty of "social distance rules" by that time and with how early things need to be set, I believe the easiest course of action would be to skip all the special hunts this year.

I don't see why they wouldn't have the hunts. DNR already has them listed and has said you have to have a valid license to apply, as they aren't going to extend the valid dates of last year's license again. State park campgrounds have been at or near capacity since they reopened a few weeks ago, so I don't think social distancing would be a valid excuse to cancel them. They may be flooded with applications this year.

I find social distancing to be a very unlikely excuse to cancel deer hunt.

I find social distancing to be a very unlikely excuse to cancel deer hunt. Exactly.... maybe the military hunts that require a large group taking a safety meeting... the rest of hunts should go on! Good luck finding a processor though.....

I've never put in for one of these, but have considered it since some would be a lot closer to home than where I typically hunt.
Worth it in anyone's experience?

You will get a lot of varying answers. Some guys say it's too crowded, some say it's good. These hunts are free tags that dont go against your regular limit. Some guys go for big bucks only. Sometimes they get them. We go to do the job asked of us, take ANY deer, especially antlerless that come by. We have shot 50#, buttons, spikes, and big ones. Depends how lucky you are. Are they worth it, that's up to you.

Do we know what the application dates are for park hunts? The link I posted above takes you to the Reserve hunt information page.

About 20 years ago I found a spot in a park that my group literally only saw 1 other person in 15 years. Somewhere about 4 years ago the park built a new mountain biking trail that made access to our little spot extremely easy. The last year we made our normal way back there we discovered all kinds of company and didn't kill a deer. My group would limit out or be 1 short for 15 years, so I think we did our part.

This is what my life has become: I look forward to July 1st (normal day when special hunts are listed) as much as I used to look forward to opening day of gun season! LOL,it is what it is.....

Mid shower it suddenly hit me that I didn't kill a deer last year. That means the 308 I picked up the year before hasn't made meat. Now I have the 350 Legend I got last year that needs to earn it's keep. I certainly hope they have and I get drawn for the Park hunts this year! That would allow me to take the 350 to the parks and then concentrate carrying the 308 on the farm.
I guess there are worse problems to have to worry about. :-)

Reserved hunt applications for dove, waterfowl, deer, and pheasant will be accepted starting July 6 and will close Aug. 17.
Individuals must apply online for these hunts. To apply, go to on.IN.gov/reservedhunt and click “Apply for a reserved hunt.” Only one application per hunt is allowed and no changes can be made once an application is submitted. Applicants must possess a valid hunting license for the hunt for which they are applying.
To find out more about reserved hunt applications that are open or opening soon, visit on.IN.gov/reservedhunt.
