Has anyone else noticed the huge increase in rabbit's lately? Maybe I've just started paying more attention but the drive to and from work I've seen more rabbit's this year than I have in the past. Don't know if the predator/prey balance has skewed towards the prey. Just me though.

I always seem to see way more rabbits in the summer. Then when season comes in......where did they go?

A long time ago I thought I read a 7 year cycle. Not sure if true or what. Maybe we are at the peak. My little 3 acres are loaded with them. A dozen or so.

Here you go...
Breeding season for cottontails begins each year in February or March and continues until September. Gestation lasts about 30 days, allowing the rabbits ample time to produce four or five litters a season.

I always see quite a few on my little 3 acre place during the summer but yeah this year I'm seeing a lot more than usual. I hope they're still around when the season gets here.

Get rid of feral cats and you'll see LOTS more rabbits. But the reason you're all seeing more rabbits is because this time of year they are, well, breeding like rabbits. Litters possible every 30 days'ish. Day she delivers she can get pregnant again. Babies able to get pregnant at 4 months. Rabbits are the food for the world so nature allows them to breed to be such. Vast majority born when mammals are birthing to provide food for them. Once those mammals have reared their young the breeding cycle is over and why you see less towards the end of the year. Average life span for a wild rabbits, 8 months.
