Another that won't be digging under the neighbor's shed. Gamo Hunter .177 @ about 20 yards. Wish I could have used the .22 Hornet, but that would draw too much attention in the neighborhood.

Good shooting? Head shot?

Good shooting? Head shot? First shot middle of lungs on the other side. It hopped around and ran a few steps and stopped. Held on the head for the second shot. DRT.

That brings back a lot of fun times from back in the 80s. Riding around in the truck and shooting groudhogs out of bean fields.

Greetings What sort of power does your air rifle have. I ask because ours are limited to 12ft lb.unless you apply to have one on the certificate. Regards Billy

I don't know about the ft-lbs of a Gamo 177 cal, but they make air rifles now that can take down deer-sized critters with no problems. They cost more than most centerfire rifles.

IIRC a .177 air rifle to stay under the 12 lb ft mark has to be in the range of 600 fps.

It is supposed to be an "adult" air rifle capable of 1000 fps. Don't know the weight of the Crossman HP pellets I am shooting, but the chronograph registers right at 1000 fps a couple feet in front of the muzzle. Just Googled them. 7.9 grains. That would get me 18 ft/lbs of energy. Shooting the same pellet at 825 fps would limit it to the 12 ft/lb threshold for you.

Greetings Thanks for that. Yes my air rifle is 12ft lb max and probably below that. But it has taken rabbits many many times for the two lads at forty yards, last time I used it I shot 56 pigeons around a farm. It's a weirauch h57 in .177. For some reason that I do not understand the 57 has a bad reputation over here. I would have another one tomorrow if I needed one.I Had this one 13 years and no bother with it at all. Regards Billy.

Billy: I hate to think how long I've had my FWB124D. In fact, I have 2 of them that are the same age. As a kid I bought one from Beeman, and UPS did it's thing so the gun would shoot around corners when it arrived. Beeman replaced it and about a week later a 2nd one showed up at the door. I (dad) kept it in the box for a year waiting to hear from them and never did. The 1st replacement one is more accurate than the 2nd one, and from Beeman it was way over 12 lb gt, IIRC it was around 850-900 fps with a 8 or 9 grain pellet. I don't remember the weight but they were most accurate with the Beeman Silver Jet pellets.

I have a couple of the Gamo Inert Gas Technology Air Rifles in 0.177 cal. They shoot the lightweight alloy pellets over 1200 fps. These pellets are around 7 grains or less. I shoot lead pellets up to around 10 grains but they shoot less than 1000 fps with the heavier pellets. I mounted some cheap scopes on these air rifles and the springer type rifles shook the heck out of the scopes and broke them. And now that I have a new Walthers scope mounted on one of these IGT rifles I had to use the blue Loctite on the screws to make sure that they don't come to lose and back out. The other scopes would move back on the dovetailed rail with each shot. This new scope has a stop pin on the scope ring which is a single-piece type unit. The scope ring is mounted on top of a riser which also has a stop pin that fits into the top of the rifle's receiver. The problem is that the stop pin is in the wrong place on the rifle for good eye relief. And when I put my cheek on the cheekpiece of the rifle's stock my eye is too far back. If I move my face closer then my cheek falls on the wrong spot. So I get a lot of parallax problems. So the only thing I've hit in the last two years was a mocking bird that was raiding my blueberry bush. I thought it was a gray squirrel when I shot it and was surprised to see a wounded mocking bird drop out of the blueberry busy instead of a gray squirrel. The bird had a broken wing and could not fly anymore. But it could hop really fast. It hopped across the yard to a fence line and disappeared. I figure the neighbor's cat or a snake will get him sooner or later. But he won't be raiding my blueberries anymore.
I still have 2 of the Crosman multishot CO2 air rifles but neither of them will seal the CO2 cylinder and are useless to me now. I killed a lot of squirrels and starlings with then in the past. They shot pellets around 750 fps and I guess that the pellets weighed around 7 to 10 grains. I'm not sure as I never paid attention to them in the past. I shot the Crosman flat head type pellets in these.
I have a couple of Walther's type CO2 pistols which I love. They don't shoot more than 450 fps and I used the heavier Crosman pellets in them. Again they were the flat head target pellets. These pistols used a rotary magazine that held 8 pellets. I can't hit anything with these pistols due to the terrible triggers on them.

Anyone have personal experience with an Umarex Gauntlet? Got my eye on one and a manual pump. Reviews and vids make it look like a really good investment/performance ratio pick. I like the no-recoil aspect on it so that it would not need a dedicated airgun scope.

Follow up on the Gauntlet... Couldn't stand it any longer and had to have one. I enjoy keeping the English Sparrows off the feeder and the Starlings off of the suet cakes. All accounts this air rifle is accurate enough with enough power for short range work on groundhogs as well, so I got it and have shot it for a couple weeks. This thing will bury pellets deeper in wood than my Gamo Hunter and I have killed a few groundhogs with the Gamo. Haven't put the Gauntlet through the chronograph to check velocity yet, but it must be up there at the claimed 1000 fps. My normal shooting range is 12 yards from the house to the bird feeder. I have no worries about hitting the feeder instead of a little English Sparrow sitting on the rail eating. I took a shot this morning at a piece of branch I had stuck in the dirt and was not overly surprised when I hit it. What surprised me was the pellet was dead on the crosshairs at 26 yards measured by Bushnell rangefinder! Can't wait to take this along to the deer blind and plink a few squirrels. 😁 The ONLY thing I don't like about it is the weight. Not light like a springer air rifle, more like a deer rifle. Pic posted sideways like it does half the time.
