I knew this would happen. If the Mayor or Police Chief does not support their own police some will just stop being policemen. They can let their leaders step up to the front lines and try to police the mobs. The Police have a terrible job. And good people won't put up with not being supported. It's a shame that two bad cops can cause such a mass desertion from the police forces. Now all these guys are still on the police force for new. They didn't throw their careers away. All they did was quit the special squad. I think that the police that pushed the old man down and caused his head to hit the concrete did the right thing. And I agree that they should be suspended. They don't need to be roughing up 70 year old men in the streets. He was no danger to the police who were dressed in riot gear to the nth degree. But I can see how the thin blue line would react to their bothers getting canned. www.cnn.com/2020/06/05/us/buffalo-police-suspension-shoving-man-trnd/index.html

What disturbed me was watching all of them just walk on by while he lay there with blood running out of his head. That is heartless .

The 75 year old man is a perpetual protester. If there is any protesting about anything he is there.
It was past curfew time. Curfew does not mean "OK its 7 o'clock everyone leave". They are supposed to be gone by that time. The squad was told to clear the area. They weren't told to clear the area of the 70 and under crowd. It meant everyone including the 75 year old. He and the others were told several times to leave and they refused to do so. The squad started advancing and at that point the 75 year old decided to get in their faces. He advanced on them with his own motorcycle helmet in his left hand. Some posters in FB tried to say it was a police helmet and he was being a good guy and returning it to them. It wasn't and he is not a good guy. His Twitter account has numerous posts of F*** The Police.
He walked up to the officers and either tried touching the one officers vest or poke him with an object he had in his hand. Two officers shoved him and I did not think all that hard. He stumbled a couple steps back and then fell hitting his head.
They did not "rough him up".
One thing one does not do in these situations is put your hands on a cop, no matter what your age is.
Now, I've got six years on this guy so I know I'm not as steady on my feet as I used to be. I had to give up my high wire act. His unsteadiness could have contributed to his fall or it was a set up and he tried a LeBron flop and went too far. He rode a motorcycle from out of town to participate in this protest so he has to have decent balance to do that. It busted his head pretty good.
The one officer bent down to check on him but the squad leader told him to keep moving as you do not break line. The squad leader then radioed the police medics that were bringing up the rear that they had a man down and they attended to him and called for an ambulance. That is the way that should be handled. This is way overblown. The police union have said that they will cover any legal fees for these two officers, but that's it, no more as its apparent that the Mayor and the Governor wont have their backs. Cuomo is even talking up criminal charges, if you can believe that.. So all the officers in the emergency response team knew that they can get in trouble for just shoving a guy to clear the areas and they would get no backing from anyone .. so they said screw it.
I don't blame them..

From the first time I saw the video, I thought nothing was so shocking about this. I don’t blame the cops for resigning. Not one little bit! I had this liberal, Trump bashing, so and so pegged before I ever read his bio! Furthermore, he was not “standing” peacefully as so many news sources reported. The way I saw it, This guy, walking toward a group of police, in this protest setting, in one simple word is confrontational!

There will be a shortage of police officers and school teachers in the near future. Not a whole lot of $$$ for an extreme amount of BS.

What disturbed me was watching all of them just walk on by while he lay there with blood running out of his head. That is heartless . There was one police commander who got on his radio and called for help for the older man. He pulled one guy away from the older man and then talked into his microphone that was on the top of his shoulder. He was calling for an ambulance and medics. You have to watch closely to see what he did. Next time you see video of the incident watch and see the one guy calling for help on his portable radio. The problem was they should have never pushed a 70 year old down onto the street with such force in the first place. I'm sure that the police were amped up and a little intimated by the huge crowds. But that is no excuse for what they did to that elderly man.

Just doing their job, which is not an easy job. I've been cuffed and run through the ringer for protecting myself from a couple redneck idiots, they didn't take having a gun brandished very well. So I got the local boys after me and up against their car cinched down running my Glock and telling me I was stupid. Turns out those were meth heads and they didn't even pursue them. Had marks for a few days on my wrists, didn't miss my tee time, though. The fun part of buying timber. I don't blame them, I could have had their jobs because I knew Becky Skillman well at the time. Just doing their jobs, maybe not the best at it, but I got over it.

They did not push him down on the street. They shoved him backwards. I’d have to go look at it again but as I recall he took a step or two backwards before he fell
Cuomo said they should be fired. The Mayor said the old guy was “an agitator” that had been asked numerous times to leave and he would not fire the cops.
Glad to see the mayor backs them up..

Totally wrong.. all political sucking up.. In the short term, I see some things changing... Will it become the new normal? I have no idea, but it appears that some people are looking @ the situation with different eyes. Just look @ Drew Brees and Roger Goodell. They both changed their positions on kneeling during the national anthem 180 degrees. I guess the real question is, are they changing positions because they truly have seen the situation in a different light, or are they changing positions publicly to get along? Like most things, time will tell... BTW, the two officers involved were both charged with 2nd-degree felony assault.

Looking for a video...
I’m discussing this on Facebook and I’m telling them that nobody should even touch a cop in these situations. A couple poo-pooed that saying the old man meant no harm and it was police brutality.
There was a very short video circulating that showed a person reaching for a riot officer’s gun and the officer cold cocked him with a left hook. Anyone know where that is at?
TIA

I totally agree with woody if yo are 16 or 96 it is really very very simple If one wants to stay out of harms way then behave and be a good citizen, He should of had more sense than to confront a bunch of younger men that were there do a job. We have enough problems with the Chinese plague without this protesting nonsense. The absolute clowns. Regards Billy

Got cuffed trying to stop a serious beat down(5 on one and they were drunk enough they probably would have killed the guy) had my gun out. I was released after the cops sorted it out, two of the drunks were arrested and the guy went to the hospital in an ambulance. Cops tried to lecture me but after we all "amped down" we had a friendly conversation. Steve

TIA That sounds a lot like what Officer Wilson said that Michael Brown did to him. Reached for his gun and even got a shot off inside the police cruiser. That's what started the riots in Ferguson MS.

Drew had to apologize if he wants those linemen to continue to protect him in the pocket. What if they all got mad at him and didn't block for him. He would be toast. Drew said what he thought at first. He then changed his mind. I agree with what Dree initially said. When we are playing the national anthem and looking at the American Flag that is no time to be taking a knee. That is the time to stand up and salute the flag if in uniform or to put your right hand over your heart and stay quiet.
