I have been wanting to clean out the 1 acre pine woods next to my house for some time. They are all dying. So we grabbed chain saw and axes and to town we went. I now know why they are all dying. Mountain pine beetles have invaded my scotch pines. So I have started cutting and burning the trees. Wow that is alot of wood to burn. Just a few of the dozen or so fires we have had. Cut into 4'-5' logs and set a blaze.

I'm now just burning the limbs and tops and have been stacking the logs.

I'm about 1/3 done dropping trees. I have tulip trees and maples that have started to take over and have been avoiding cutting them or dropping trees on them. Also have American holly growing in there as well. I'm going to plant seedlings from the DNR next year. They said to wait a year or 2 before replanting. I'm going with white pines and Concolor fir.
What should I do with all these logs?

Would they make decent fence posts? Pretty good stack there.

I would through a huge party and have a very large bonfire. Wait until squirrel or early bow season when it's a little cooler. Make sure there are plenty of young teenage or early twenties and that pile will be gone.
Or build a log style shed. That would look cool.

Looks like you are going to be busy for awhile. I'm in the process of moving 8 tons of dirt that I started yesterday evening. Moved a different 4 tons last weekend. Worn out.

I did contemplate the log building thing but I have way to many irons right now.

Instead of going even close to where I wanted it it went 90° the wrong way. Think the tractor has a tree magnet in it.

Now you have a custom lawn mower. Looks like it's fixable. Frame looks okay from the picture and engine I couldn't tell. Hopefully, it's just the hood and still usable. Glad it didn't fall on you. I have a dead ash that I need to cut, but I need my son on this one. Need to attach a rope up high and force it away from the new barn. Topping it 1st.

Ya it is mostly cosmetic. My son used it after that and works fine. If he would have got off it when I told him to come help me it would have been 10 yards farther back but he drove it closer as I was yelling at him to leave it and walk to me. 360° to fall at thats where it went.

At least it was cosmetic and the mower verses your son. Lesson learned for your son.
