Well I found out that in three years ,or less, my parents will be selling their 89 acre farm. So that will be the end of my private hunting land. I've hunted trapped and fished it since I was 12 ,I'm 50 now, and got my first deer, turkey, steelhead, goose, duck, dove, beaver and coyote on that property. My son got is first deer and turkey there also. Had many great memories hunting and fishing with friends and family there. Also my 450+ yard shooting range. So soon to start a new chapter in my hunting chronicles.

No ,not unless I win the lottery. Try and work out a deal with the buyers. Maybe your folks can put something to that affect in the purchase agreement.

I have a general idea where your family property is at and yes that is a very desirable area for Chicago money.
I feel sick for you because you may never have a place like that again.
I would have a sit down with all involved and see if there is alternative to this sale.
GOOD LUCK.

Sad. I still remember when my parents sold their 32 acres in Switzerland county. I was in Fort Wayne at the time just starting my 1st career job. I didn't have the money either. College poor. I needed just a few more months, but that didn't work out. I did't know about them selling it until to late. They sold it fast. A person(?) burned down the barn and mobile home. We knew who it was, but let it go. The person didn't need more problems. Mentally challenged. I still drive by it once in a while going to my brothers farm.

I'm the only one of my siblings that hunts. One lives in Georgia and is a plant geneticist, one is a Veterinarian and the other is a vet technician. Yes I'm the black sheep. 🙃 They will want their share. Thats why my parents are selling so we don't fight over it.

ENTIRELY less value money wise, but I 100% get the sentimental aspect. My parents are selling the woods and property I grew up on and cut my teeth on in the woods. Only 9 acres, but this will be the first fall that woods is not an option when deciding best stand to go hunt. Incredibly disheartening and depressing.

One problem I have now is when do I take a the stands down. I got about a dozen stands up. All hand made out of steel and SS expanded metal. They aren't easy to move. They don't come apart. They were meant to stay there. My blind will be the last one to leave as its on wheels and can be moved.

I'd say if property isn't sold before a July of any given year, request that following fall be your final year hunting. That can easily be applied to a sales agreement. I'd bet they would understand. Or if they know they're going to sell next year, this year be the last. I'd bet that much could be decided without ruffling any feathers.

bullseye..... I feel for you in your dilemma. Just my 2 cents worth, i dont know your status in life (financial, marriage or occupation) but I assume that you will be receiving a portion of the sale of the property as an inheritance. If so I would do my best to at least try and purchase some property as much as you could with what means you have. I know thats easier said than done. good luck with all that is going on.
