What is everyone shooting at those limb shakers with? Ball ammo? Hollow points? Shotgun pellets?
I like these CCI .22LR "mini mags" I picked up yesterday and shot today. They're hollow points. They'll be devastating on the ground squirrels in the yard but, I think they may damage the red squirrels too much.

I save the premium ammo for hunting. Either same as you stated, Eley, or Fed Gold Match, etc. I shoot head mostly, so whatever box is open. Even a solid from chest up works for me.

I also use mini mags. Either the hollow points or round nose. Hollow points seem to shoot tighter out of my rifle for some reason. I have an assortment of other rounds to take to the range for accuracy testing. Curious to see if cci standard velocity is even more accurate. I dont worry about meat damage as I am head shooting.

I like the subsonic Remington LRHP. Didn't try other brands, when I bought a couple hundred rounds, any.22 LR were hard to come by, and after I took them to the range and checked them out, I was so happy with them I had no reason to look further.
Both rifles I shot them through showed better accuracy than I had ever got with full strength LR's and their performance on squirrels was also completely satisfactory, dropping one with very little meat loss but a quick kill, and the shot was almost as quiet as using a short. It does make a difference in how soon other squirrels in the area resume feeding.
I had read that some semi-autos might tend to need more powerful rounds to function properly, but I shot a total of about fifty rounds while accuracy testing with my Ruger 1022T and my Ruger Mark 1 pistol and had no failures to eject the empty brass and reload the next round. Your results may vary, of course.

I use a 22 LR hollow point CCI round out of a bolt action with a little 4X scope OR #6 lead shot from a 12 gauge. I like the shot gun when the leaves are still pretty dense and the 22 for once the leaves fall. Best gun for it is an over and under 22/410 I used to have but it was damaged in a fire.

Your results may vary, of course. I've used the Remington Subsonics for years out of my Marlin 881, good for squirrels up through groundhogs. Started out with the RWS Subsonics, but they got too costly for me. I tried them in my 10/22. They would function, but accuracy was not good. My favorite is the CCI .17 Mach II for squirrels out of my Marlin 917M2. The .17 HMR is a great late season round, but can be hard on front legs if the squirrels don't hold real still.

I am going to use my NEF 17 Mach II this year also. I just bought it so I still have to scope it and sight it in. Will be using Hornady VMax hopefully.

Omega, surprised to see that result for accuracy from your 10/22 using the subsonic Remingtons. I know it's not unusual for different guns to get different results using the same ammo, but my 10/22 would be the same receiver as yours and the same clip, so about the only difference would be the heavier barrel of the 1022T versus the standard weight barrel.
Not arguing your results, I trust your ability to test your ammo and judge the results. Just surprised to see nearly identical guns getting such a wide range of results. My 10/22T had its 3X9 scope cranked up to 9x and I had a nice still day on the bench rest at the club, but I was still pleasantly surprised to get a five-shot group over a sandbag at 35 yards that was a just slightly ragged one-hole. Best group ever for this old guy! Kinda makes me want to take it out to the range again and see if I can duplicate that, or if I just had a five-shot string of luck 8^)
I had been a CCI guy too for a long time before the shortage sent me shopping for whatever I could get a few years ago and the Rem's became available before anything else.
The 10/22T really doesn't get much use. Too darn heavy to tote around squirrel hunting and I don't shoot competitively anywhere, but it is fun to occasionally take out and poke a few little holes in paper when nothing is in season.

For squirrels Iike the CCI 21gn lead free hollow points. 1850fps and they don't do alot of meat damage. For ground squirrels I just use the good old golden bullet.

I used to use the Winchester T22s. Good accuracy. Next I went to the Remington Subsonics and they worked very good. I have not seen the Rems for a while so I picked up a couple of boxes of Aquila subsonics. Best shooting round out of my T-Bolt ever. I went back and bought some more. For something different I use my Marlin 1894 25-20 with handloads. A 65 grain bullet over 7.5 grains of Trail Boss gets the job done.

Only 2 rounds that I have ever got to shoot good out of that 10/22 has been the old Remington Thunderbolts with the trunicated noses that they discontinued and the CCI Mini Mag HP. With both of those it was a one-hole gun at 25 yards.

For the last several yrs., I've used CCI SV LR, exclusively in all four of my .22 rifles. Their accuracy is excellent in all four guns. BTW, less than 2 1/2 mos. til limb chicken season!

I'm looking at the Federal Hunter Match 40 grain .22LR hollow points. I had just been shooting cheap Winchester .22LR 40 grain hollow points.

When we go out west to shoot Prarie dogs we use is the bulk Remington Golden bullets. Have always been consistent and no misfires. Shot many at 200 yards and a few at 300.
