I patterned my turkey shotgun-a Browning BPS-years ago, with what was, at that time, one of the best turkey loads available: Winchester Hi-Density Extended Range. I tried a Comp-N-Choke XXX-Full turkey chose, as well as the Browning X-Full choke that came with the shotgun, and bought up a boat load of the Winchester Turkey loads in 3" and 3 1/2 inch, different shot sizes, and shot them ALL through the gun, with the Browning, and the Comp-N-Choke chokes. I actually settled on the Browning choke because, as I recall, it shot just as good as the Comp-N-Choke with those shells. This all equated to a HUGE expense, as well as a huge expenditure of time and effort.
Fast forward to today, and as I`m trying to figure out how to attach a red dot to this BPS, I`m rethinking everything. As I`ve researched the Federal 3rd degree turkey loads, it says they don`t like ported chokes because that atrips the wad, which is undesirable. One site recommended Carlson waterfowl chokes, saying they patteren the Federal 3rd degree loads very well.
I`ve also considered the Federal TSS turkey loads after watching a video of how incredible they were through a Remington 870 at 40 yards.
Truthfully, I`m at a loss as to what to do, and what direction to turn. From not being able to find a mounting rail for my BPS, to now thinking I might want to redo all the work I`d done before, it`s very overwhelming for the moment.
Is the Comp-N-Choke XXX-Full choke still a viable choke? I`d be willing to try the Federal TSS through it, since it sounds like the Federal 3rd degree wouldn`t even be worth the effort since it`s ported too. Or would I be money ahead to try a newer turkey choke?
I sure would appreciate any and all feedback from the guys who know about this.

You can call these choke companies and tell them what gun your shooting and what shell you are wanting to shoot and they will recommend a choke for you.

This is where I get my TSS shells. He has a very good website and a great guy to work with. A fewe years ago I needed 10 ga shells but he was sold out. Gave me the names of some of his dealers down in Mississippi and I got them from there, he even floowed up to see if I found them. He has recommendation on his site for various guns and recomended chokes for each. nitrocompany.com/

Is he any better to get a hold of? I use to use Nitro before I switched to TSS. It would be 20-30 calls before I could get someone to answer. E mail wasnt any better.

Does anyone else shoot the Federal TSS #7 shot? What choke do you shoot it through? I shoot TSS through a 20 ga 870 with a Carlson choke, some will tell you that you can achieve the same results through cheaper means. They may be right but I’m here to tell you I have no doubts about this set up. It flat works, I hunt HNF and walk a long way some days I wanted something lighter than my 12 Ga and decided on this set up. I’m a happy camper when it comes to weight reduction and performance. I usually shoot my birds within 40 yards and most times they’re much closer but the paper targets at 50 and 60 yards were enough to tell me I made the right choice.

I settled on the Carlsons Extended Turkey Choke, 0.665 constriction. It is not ported, as Federal recommends no porting for use with their 3rd Degree turkey loads. I`ve read great reviews about how well this choke patterns with Federal`s 3rd Degree. We`ll see how it goes once I can pattern with it.

Got mine today. $39.95 and free shipping. That’s a good deal I bought mine 10 12 years ago I think I paid about 80 bucks worth every penny even though I’m not much much of a turkey hunter. It tightened my groups up a ton I’d have no issues at 50 yards honestly I think 75 maybe very doable don’t know that I’d try but after testing/ shooting it I still had a ton of shot in the neck and head
