It’s pretty tough to say “Happy Memorial Day” when it is supposed to be a day of rembrance and thanks to those who gave it all.
We decorated graves yesterday. My wife’s grandfather was a veteran of the Spanish American War and is buried in Locust Hill Cemetary in Evansville. We alway put red, white and blue flowers on his grave. He is buried in the veterans section that has simple headstones like those in our present cover photo.
After decorating his grave I took a few minutes to walk among the tombstones reading a few. Some died young and during wartime so I’m guessing they were war casualties. Some tombstones did not have a name just “American Soldier”. That is the saddest of all.
I noticed that most of the tombstones were getting dark stains from mold. After the Memorial Day is over my project is going to be to clean them all. I’m not going to do a rub and scrub but I’ll be using a product called Wet and Forget. You just spray it on and let Mother Nature do the rest. I’ve used it on patio furniture, my deck, my roof and fence. It works pretty decently.
It’s the least I can do for them...

In honor of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, I did the "Murph" on Monday.
1 mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 air squats, and another mile run ... all while wearing a 20 lb weight vest.
It was one of the favorite workouts of US Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Michael Murphy. The movie 'Lone Survivor' was about his final mission.
...and yes, I'm still hurting today.

Impressive. On my best day, a third of all that would have put me beneath a stone. Probably a third of a third.
