I have a Browning BPS 12 gauge for my turkey gun, and I`ve for years had it topped with the Hiviz, triviz turkey sight: www.cabelas.com/product/HiViz-TriViz-Turkey-Sight/742073.utsIt`s served me well, as I`ve killed many birds with this set up. However, as I was recently cleaning my turkey gun before stowing it away in the gun safe until next spring, I found that the rear sight was loose and I had to tighten it back down. It had slid along the rib, and although it can`t be important exactly where it was on the rib, I realized that I just couldn`t in good conscience go turkey hunting next season without completely re-sighting in the gun at all the potential ranges just to be sure. It had occurred to me to that I probably ought to consider topping the Browning BPS with some sort of red-dot scope or other slightly magnified sighting system, as well as consider switching from my Winchester Extended Range Hi-Density turkey loads, even though I likely still have probably 40 of them left. When I bought these years ago, they were the best turkey loads on the market, and so I loaded up on them. I don`t have much money, and I may have to sell a kidney to buy a scope for my turkey gun, but if I were to come up with the money, what would you suggest as either a red-dot turkey scope or a slightly magnified turkey scope. I have Leupold`s on everything else, but I`m certain I couldn`t afford a Leupold for this application.

I guess I'm not sure exactly what you're wanting to spend. And I get the fact that you don't want to spend a fortune. I didn't either but, I had been so impressed with the Nikon P-Tactical series, I have one on my AR 10 and on my Savage Mark V .22, that I wanted to top my new turkey gun with one. It is the Nikon P-Tactical Spur red dot reflex sight. It was easy to zero, easily accessible buttons to adjust the red dot brightness and the battery compartment is on top so I will not have to re-zero if I have to change the battery. I found mine on sale at Heart of Texas Armory. Plus they had a $10 off code. www.heartoftexasarmory.com/store/p164/nikon_p_tactical_spur.html#/Unfortunately, Nikon is no longer manufacturing scopes so you may have to find a store with them in stock. That is, of course, if you choose to go this route. Good luck and let us know what you choose!

I have an EO Tech Holosight that I'll be throwing on the turkey gun. Here's a video that explains the difference between red dot and holosights, etc. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hkxw8Ahrhhg

I checked with my buddy and he and his brother have a Truglow red dot he said, and doesn`t sound like an extremely expensive one. On scopes, I`m good because I`ve just decided that Leupold is it for me, and so all of my other long guns have the gold ring on them. For my turkey gun it`s different in several ways, but the most pressing is, I just don`t have several hundred dollars to put into this. There`s so much to choose from too, and as I red reviews, I tend to see many of them that complain that the red dot isn`t bright enough during full daylight which is troubling. I understand that I`ll be making trade-offs by settling for a less expensive red dot, and that`s where my greatest difficulty lies, I don`t want to settle. Lol.

I have several topped with Bushnell red dots and have several buddies that went with them after my suggestion. Haven't used the newer ones but older ones with interchangeable crosshairs and dots. The reticle I use is a circle with dot. Turkey head in the circle, it's dead. Always sighted in, year after year. Used on 12ga 3.5 down to 20ga.

I have Burris fast fire on my woods deer gun. At 100 yards the dot dosnt cover a deers head like some red dots do. I'm going to get another to put on my turkey gun set up.

The fast fire does come with a shade for sunny days. 3 MOA dot Also helps keep it dry.

Bushnell 730135 is the model number. It's actually discontinued I just found out but many available online. For around $60 I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I needed one. Some will argue, with batteries it's not if but when...while I agree to some extent I've never had an issue. Only turn it on when about to need it. As simple as taking the safety off on your gun and I always carry an extra battery just in case. Per your comment about intensity of light, these have 11 different settings for intensity, 11 will "blind" the scope of the best of days, 4 different reticles ( crosshairs, small dot, larger dot, and circle with dot ). Word of caution, changing reticles will change poi. I didn't believe it but it's true after testing. Another thing many don't know, and a reason I love using them for new hunters. The reticle does not need to be centered in the tube. Top, bottom, left or right the bullet or shot goes where the dot is. I find newer hunters tend to have a hard time with conventional scopes centering crosshairs and same mount hold. With red dots that isn't an issue.

I have an extra Nikon shotgun 3x9 scope that I use.. maybe over kill but it works.. Sadly a few years ago I realized I could not see the sights on my shotgun in low light or in a blind because of my eyes... I could if I had my readers on but that isn't practical... so I put on this scope... really like it because I can fine tune my patterns.
I think it helps in longer shots, shot a bird I stalked in 2013 and shot thinking he was 50 yards but turned out to be almost 70, and the 3.5" shell leveled him.. Shot one last year at almost 50...
I don't want any batteries, they get left on, or don't work, then your screwed....

I`m supposing that nearly any red dot can be used as a turkey scope, although some lend themselves better to that task. Some are designed specifically for use as a turkey scope, while some are great general use scopes, suitable for handguns, rifles, or whatever. I`ve been given the ok to get a red dot, and am supposed to keep it around $150 or less, and am seriously thinking of this one: www.opticsplanet.com/bushnell-ar-optics-first-strike-2-0-reflex-sight-4-moa-red-dot-reticle-aimpoint.htmlWhatever red dot I end up with, aren't they all mounted on either a weaver or picatinny rail? There are two screws on the receiver of my BPS, so it`s apparently designed to accept either one. I`d love to know what anyone thinks of the Bushnell I`m considering...

Good price and aboot the same size as the Burris fast fire

The 4 MOA dot shouldn't be to big for a turkey head.

The 4 MOA dot shouldn't be to big for a turkey head. I`m asking because I`ve never used a red dot and know nothing about them, but even if the dot blocked out the turkey`s head, so long as you had the dot covering the head, would that be a good killing shot?

I have had some that the dot was so big that it wasn't good for longer ranges. Mine is a 3 moa and I can see a deers head at 100 yards with it. 4moa on a turkey head should be fine.
