With some of the kids and grandkids coming over for a Mother's Day dinner, it seemed fitting to use some of Friday's turkey for part of the feast. So, I decided to use some of the breast meat and tweak my Grandmother's old Mennonite Turkey Stroganoff recipe a bit!!! Man O Man, was it a super hit. My 3 oldest grandsons, 11, 12, and 13 years old made real quick work of the pot! I'm a happy and blessed Papaw!

Cooking a wild game dinner for folks is what makes being a hunter so much fun. I never give wild game or fish away but I will cook it up for you and we can both enjoy a wild game treat.
Cotton:that looks delicious.

Cotton:that looks delicious. Don’t give much away myself but I cook a lot of it for people when they come over I do cook enough for myself and then take some for mom hard to believe as much as she eats it and dad did when he was alive that he never hunted he fished a ton he’d hunt if I dragged him along but that’s about it

Here's a note on the recipe:
Mennonite Style Wild Turkey Stroganoff
Ingredients: (1/2) turkey breast (average is 2-3 lbs and sometimes a bit more depending on your turkey), chopped, ½” to ¾” soaked overnight in buttermilk, then drained. (1) chopped onion. (2) teaspoon each of salt, pepper, and minced garlic (or adjust to your taste). (3) Tablespoons of olive oil. (1) 10.5 oz can of Cream of Mushroom soup. Another 8 oz of fresh mushrooms of your choice, ~3/4” chopped. 8-10 oz of Essenhaus egg noodles (Meijer, WalMart, etc). Grandma is gone now, so I cheat here since I could never make noodles like she did! (1) Container of sour cream
Instructions: Add the turkey to a crockpot and top with the chopped onion. Mix the salt, pepper, garlic, olive oil, and mushroom soup. Top the turkey and onion with this mixture. Slow cook on low for 8 hours. If possible, stir the concoction every few hours. After about 6 hours, add the fresh mushrooms. Within the last 15 minutes, add as much sour cream as you like to the mix! At the end, prepare the noodles according to the instructions and top the noodles with the mixture or simply mix it all together.
Sidenote: If the liquid part of the mixture is too soupy (before adding the noodles), ladle off that part into another pan. Heat and mix in some flour to the consistency you desire. And mix back into the whole concoction! You can alter this to your taste. As an example, my Mom likes to add a generous amount of paprika!

One other note as my wife reminded me. Add as much sour cream as you like, about 15 minutes before the crockpot mix is done!

I remember white wine being a part of some stroaganoff recipes? Sounds good, I'm going to try it.

That looks delicious. I didn't get a bird this year so it's fried SPAM for me.

I did almost the same thing with pheasant breast meat. I used to have a LOT of pheasants to clean, and got so tired of it that I'd just breast them out too.
