1st year 100% trad... No blind, just a ghillie suit. Missed a bird at 12 yards on second day of season, shot too high. Hunted everyday since with no luck at drawing them in close enough for my 15 yard comfort zone. This morning, it all worked out. Had one gobbling on his own hard on the roost. I setup within 60 yards, but as they usually do, he went the opposite way after pitching down. I stayed put, hoping with just some soft purrs and clucks that he would be back. Sure enough, after about 3 hours he started working my way. I had a clump of honeysuckle in between me and him when i first picked him out. He threw 2 gobbles at me around 15 yards away that darn near blew my heart up.. Finally he worked his way around that honeysuckle and spotted my hen decoy. He slowly strutted his way to the decoy, spitiing and drumming like crazy. He gave me a broadside 9 yard shot. He looked as big as a 55 gallon drum at just 9 yards. I hit him high in the leg, he flew up and landed about 10 yards away and expired quickly after that. Funny part is that I had sat there on my knees for so long waiting on a shot opportunity that my feet fell asleep and I didnt really think about it due to adrenaline until I got up to go after him..i tripped, and rolled half way to him..lol Needless to say, I am hooked on traditional archery now and what a way to break the ice!! Hoping my buddy scrub-buster will post pic because i stll havent figured out how to post them on here.

Congratulations. I knew you would get it done. I'm excited to see what you do with that set up in deer season.

A big congrats. Nothing funner than the guillie suit up close, except with a bow. Cant even imagine a traditional bow!!! That's awesome!

Congratulations! While a majority of the turkey hunting population, me included, are trying to extend our range, you went the opposite and decreased it. Way to go on accomplishing a hard goal!

Way to go on accomplishing a hard goal! genesis273, thats exactly the reason I went to traditional. The compound and shotgun just wasn't fun for me anymore. This has brought back a feeling that Ive lost for some time now. I should have switched to trad bows years ago! Thanks for the kind remarks!

Good job! It's a heart pumper for sure! I have got one with the bow and one with xbow. I like the archery part as well but I don't have turkeys like we used to on my hunting spot to be able to use bow any more. I really liked the challenge.

Fantastic! What is the bow? Thank you! It is a Stalker Stickbow Coyote SL....56", 52#@28". Love that little bow for maneuverability. Ive got a Black Widow MAII that I am going to be setting uo for deer season. It accepts a longer distance fixed crawl better because it is longer. The Stalker, I had fixed crawl set to 15 yards on that one for turkeys.

Never shot a stalker but that length is perfect for this. Have shot the Widow-really liked it. You have fine taste in archery equipment!
