Thinking about getting a dedicated turkey gun later on this year, or at least a shot gun that I can switch barrels on from waterfowl to turkey.
12 ga, semi auto. I'd really like to put a scope or red-dot on the turkey barrel.
Suggestions on a gun and choke that works well for turkeys? Parameters are 12 ga and semi auto.

What is your price range. Also with TSS you could get a lighter weight gun in a 20. I do like my 12 being an 80yd gun though.

I have a Mossberg 935 pistol grip shotgun and I love this gun. I am using the longbeard xr choke and longbeard xr’s and the pattern is pretty solid out to about 50 yards.
Other guns I would recommend: the 930 is a good gun if you don’t want to shoot 3.5 in shells
Remington 1187 is a very solid choice too. Have borrowed a few from friends and family. We used a jelly head turkey choke and Remington nitro turkey and pattern was solid to 40-45 yards.
My uncle has a Charles Daly 635. It is surprisingly a very nice and economical shotgun. I had heard mixed reviews about the Charles Daly shotguns but this one is nice. He got an undertaker choke for it and it has good patterns to 50 yards. It is very lightweight and it definitely packs a punch as far as recoil goes.

I bought a Mossberg 935 Magnum turkey last year. Topped it with a Nikon P-Tactical Spur red dot. I installed a Carlson's Long Beard XR choke tube. I also put a limbsaver recoil pad on the stock. I have zero complaints with this set up. www.mossberg.com/product/935-turkey-81046/

I did the same thing 3 years ago....and ended getting a Remington Versa Max sportsman in Mossy Oak Obsession, have a Truglo gobble stopper red dot and an Indian Creek choke. Very happy with it.

It is hand painted and i put a 4 power circle cross hair scope on it and I have killed at least 30 turkeys with it. It just has a regular EX-Full extended turkey choke in it and use Winchester XR's #6 in it. I am not gonna change what works.

Old, old, old Mossberg 500....never really given it much thought until this year and with all the changes and advancements that have been made I intend to do some upgrades before next season.
I'm going to fit it with a Phoenix Technologies kicklite tactical stock and a Carlson longboard xr choke....and plan on switching to Winchester longboard xr #6's.
I bought Easton a Mossberg 500 bantam this year and have the same stock and choke coming for it. The stock is typical tactical style with 6 position adjustment that shortens the length of pull even shorter than the factory bantam stock as well as having a recoil absorbing system built in.
Edit: should have only put two "olds"...looked it up and the gun was manufactured in 2001.

I’ve always been a pump gun fan. My pumps have always been Remington 870s. Present turkey/deer shotgun is a Predator Camo dipped 870 with a ShurShot stock, cantilever mounted Simmons 2X ProDiamond scope (for the turkey barrel) and a .665 extended Rhino Choke. I shoot Hevi-Shot Magnum Blend 5, 6 and 7. When I used the shotgun for deer the turkey barrel came off and a cantilever rifled barrel went on. It sports a Nikon ProStaff 2-7 scope .

My problem with the pump guns is that I've shot semi auto and Over/Unders for so long that I can't remember to "pump" the shotgun. When I pull the trigger the second time and there is no boom THEN I remember.......
If push comes to shove, I DO have a 2nd 12 ga. 3" 1100 that I tig welded a scope mount to the receiver. I could just get a turkey barrel for it, and continue to use the other 12 ga. 3" 1100 for waterfowl but what's the fun in that? LOL

If I were buying today I'd probably go Mossberg 930 and fit it with a tactical stock and either a tss or longbeards xr specific choke and a reflex style red-dot.
TSS is very, very interesting but I'm not sure performance over the xr's justifies the huge price difference.

I believe all the mossbergs come with tapped receivers...opitcs are a must for me. Eye problems make bead or iron type sights nearly impossible for me at stationary targets.

Even our cheap Mossberg 500 youth came with a drilled and tapped receiver.

I use your basic gloss finished walnut Remington 870 with a smoothbore slug barrel threaded for tubes and a Remington Ventilator turkey choke tube. The factory rifle sights are replaced with Williams Fire Sights. 3" chambered gun, never saw the need for 3 1/2" shoulder busters myself. My longest shot with this combo has been 55 yards. It was a cheap setup, had the gun and barrel for deer hunting but never used it anymore since I switched to handguns.

My turkey killer is a 30+ year old Mossberg 500. I shoot Remington Nitro Turkey #6 through a HS Strut Undertaker. I've said before that I like cheap stuff that works, and this gun works on turkeys. I recommend this combo to anyone that wants to kill turkeys within 45 yards, without spending a lot of money.

Easton's new gun is finished up...fits him nicely and should be a turkey killer.

Easton's new gun is finished up...fits him nicely and should be a turkey killer. Pretty sharp looking! Should serve him well. I enjoyed using the youth 20ga a couple times for maneuverability.
