So, I wonder.. Was this a better than average year from a population standpoint, or do we hit a record just because most folks have more time to be in the woods this year? A little of population and a whole lot of more time to hunt. IMO

I got my e mail about Alabama's harvest little over 9,000 last year up to 16,000ish this year. THe main turkey guy says numbers are flawed since so many people were hunting this year. ALso you can tell not many people ck in birds down there. 8 week season and 5 bird limit.

I had my best year by far, but nothing was comparable to previous years. Hunting at work (where most of my hunts take place) has been suspended because of Coronavirus. I have my own spot now, which seems to have a good turkey population. And I never stepped foot on public land this season.

We do have "48 hours to check in our kills" so that number might go up a little bit.

I am sitting here thinking out this season. I have turkey hunted for 23 years now in Indiana. This was a great season for me but not any better per say than many seasons in the past as far as gobbling activity and shot opportunity.
I am wondering if the use of newer equipment hasnt helped more so than anything. TSS, etc. I know several guys who shot birds beyond 70 yards this season with such equipment.
Please do not take me wrong. I do not care what one chooses to use as long as it is legal. But, I have hunted turkeys long enough to learn that lots of birds hang up in that range of 50 to 80 yards. Now with the new equipment capable of reaching that distance, I am "guessing" that is Why the numbers are up along with the fact that guys/gals did have more time to be in the turkey woods.
Just a thought, what do you guys think?
