I've been on a prowl for a mid priced 1911 for some years. Got some gift cards to use at various stores and came across this option at Cabelas/Bass Pro. www.cabelas.com/product/KIMBER-LW-SEMI-AUTO-PISTOLS/3471092.utsAnybody have one of these Kimbers? Thoughts on an aluminum frame!? Much effect on felt recoil? Better options for a similar price?

Not that bad of a price. And it is "Unrivaled craftsmanship and Hair-splitting accuracy". If you keep the rails well greased it should be good for a long time.

I carry a Kimber Tactical Entry II on my duty belt. One thing I can say for sure is that the accuracy, or consistency, is amazing. As previously stated, keep it oiled up because the Kimber's can be a bit fussy otherwise. They need to be kept clean.
My biggest complaint is the Kimber Pro finish. It is junk in my opinion. And yes, I know, I spend a lot of time at the range shooting and doing a ton of un-holstering/re-holstering. However, for the price of the guns, the finish should not be wearing off as bad and as quickly as it has.
That being said, I love my Kimber and I'd buy two more if I could afford them.

Other than the finish, do you like the trigger? Anything else you might red flag on the gun? I’ll be meeting up with another old “bird dogger” tomorrow afternoon as he’s interested in a few of my old SxS double guns. Apparently he’s got a Kimber Rapide in 10mm. Says he’s unhappy with it. Too many failures to feed and eject! I never trust another shooters experience with a gun. I want to shoot it myself. Sorry to ramble on here. I guess I just have a gut feeling that this gun might be better than the current owner!? Let me know your thoughts!

Even if it has an issue, I am sure Kimber would straighten it out, if not a good gunsmith.

I know it's not a Kimber, but I have this and have run 800 rounds through it of all flavors, even some unknown reloads and haven't had a FTF. Be warned, it IS stiff when you get it, but it loosens up after a few hundred rounds and stays that way. Trigger is great, great short reset, etc. SAO trigger so it's the same trigger pull every time. www.sigsauer.com/store/p229-legion-compact-sao.html

Well, it didn’t work out to meet up with the fella interested in my double guns today. Possibly one evening this week.

And I've put thousand's of rounds through it. Whether I'm just doing a standard qualification course or some tactical running and gunning, I've never had an issue.

So now I’m not sure if this deal will happen. We were supposed to meet up tonight and and as I was driving, the fella called and cancelled. Strike 2!!! He gave no reason and I didn’t pry! But, I’m amping up with some anticipation because I think I’d really like to get my hands on this Kimber he supposedly owns!!!

Well, things finally fell into place today and I met up with the fella to work towards a barter. I sent some pics and then talked with my ole buddy jack ryan. He walked me through the disassembly, inspection, clean/lube and reassembly. That coupled with a bunch of videos was a big help. The gun was a little dirty. It has some minor scratches including the idiot scratch at the slide stop (not too bad though). The dude is kind of a nervous, jittery guy. Seemed to be a bit impulsive. He said he shot a hundred rounds through the gun and had "too many failures." I'm gonna run at least a hundred rounds through her and see what happens. We see nothing majorly wrong with the gun. Nothing blatantly obvious as a problem. I did notice that the guide rod on this model is about half the length of all the "Custom full size Kimber" guide rods on the videos. I'm not sure what that is all about. Guess I'll do a little research on that one.

A good firm grip will be your friend. That should not be a problem two handed. Get a couple hundred rounds and have some fun. You will be asking which Dillon Press to buy next.

I hope to find out a bit more today at the range. Haha! Not sure on a Dillon Press! I’m finding it hard enough to spend time with my Rock Chucker Supreme!!
