In all the years I`ve crappie fished, I`ve always fished one of two ways: either with minnows under a slip-bobber, or; casting a jig out and slowly fishing it back to the boat/bank. As I`m having trouble finding a bait shop nearby, I`m faced with learning to fish for crappie a different way. I`ve heard guys say that they fish only with a crappie jig under a slip-bobber, no minnow, and I`ve never tried that.
Can someone offer up a quick primer on crappie fishing with only a jig under a bobber? What types, colors, and sizes?

Same as casting the jig out and fishing it back to the boat. All the bobber does is it lets to keep it in one spot and just pop it up and down a little. It also shows when a fish takes it of course. We usually just use a hair jig with a bobber and a curly tail of some sort when casting and reeling. Sometimes in early colder water you don’t have to move the bobber at all the wave action is all it needs.

Call or email Stacy, tell her Scott from Hoosier Pond Pros told you to call her. They have been doing well using these on the Crappie Tournemant circuit, they stay on the hook a LOT better than the crappie nibbles. I use the fish food color one to fish with in the pond and have caught close to 20 fish on one before I lost it. Stubby Steve's

When the crappie are smashing on either open water or ice I like using small baits I make from beaver tail, cut in small strips, soaked in glycol with a little anis and garlic. Perch love them also. Last as long as you want to fish.

I HATE crappie nibbles, but they do seem to work.

I get some new stuff kicked my way once in a whole. They also make bait "bags" for commercial fishermen that fish for lobster and crawfish. The bait bags hold up a LOT longer than the bait that they typically use.
