You'll need to try out a few to decide for yourself , generally speaking any crossbow will get the job done . I have two , a 150# Barnett Ranger and a 180# no name brand , neither were expensive and both can take down deer sized game . If I had the money to invest though I'd go with an Excalibur .

deerdude:
I have owned, and still do have, a few Excalibur's, and they are the best in my "opinion" only. They are so simple and easy to use and tune, as well as maintain. However, getting a used one for a good cheap deal may be hard to find. Purchasing new is a bit pricey. If you are looking for a reasonable, fairly cheap deal, I would say go with the Barnett's. Then down the road if you wish better or want to upgrade you can sell it and buy better.

I purchased a Ten Point , Titan TL4 last year. I killed two Does with it last season. Well built bow. I bought the Accu Draw for it as well. The crank is so easy to operate, besides that I cannot cock a 175 lb bow.
I bought mine off of e-bay and got it for a good price ($610.) Cheapest I could find it in the stores was Gander Mountain ($690) and Bass Pro ($714)
