Looking for opinions from people who have owned and shot one or the other brand. I realize that there a lot of models in each line, but which do you prefer and why?

I have a micro-335 (excalibur)is good to 70 yards very accurate and built like a tank. I'll probably use it in muzzleoader season. It has the rope but isnt bad to pull back. I've never heard a bad thing about the brand other than they are pricey.

I’ve had both brands..
I started out with an Excalibur Exomag. At that time it was the fastest crossbow made. 330 FPS with a 350 grain arrow. Excalibur then came out with the ExoMax that was even quicker at I believe 350 FPS. They basically changed the riser angle pitched the limbs forward a bit. I knew the owner Bill Troubridge well and asked him to send me the new riser. He did and I swapped it out. That made it a bear to cock.
I shot a TenPoint QX4 and fell in love with it so I bought it. I practiced and Shot both in my backyard alternating bows. Before practice was over the Excalibur was hung up and I continued shooting the TenPoint. I enjoyed the QX4 more so I ended trading the Excalibur for a Ruger 44 Mag Carbine.
I’ve shot and hunted with Tenpoint products ever since. Both companies stand behind their products.
Excalibur is made in Canada and TenPoint is made in Ohio if that matters to you.
Right now if I was in the market for crossbow I’d get the reversed limb Wicked Ridge RDX 400 by TenPoint.

A friend gave me a CamX to try. Quieter and easier to cock than my Barnett.

I probably will catch some slack for this,,,,,,but I have for the past 3 years used a Mission MXB320. A great bow. Not the fastest but at around 320fps. plenty fast enough to kill a deer. A couple of weeks before the season this year I was gifted 300 bucks and thought I would buy something I could show for it. I was at Bucks and Jakes and they had a Centerpoint 415 Heat crossbow for 330 bucks. I know this is an import bow but I have heard good thing about the Centerpoint brand (they own Ravin)I bought it and my Mission never left the house this year. I love this cheap bow. It shoots as good if not better than my Mission at half the cost. It is very quiet, fast, compact and just a pleasure to shoot. I did upgrade to a better scope was all I did and bought some Black Eagle arrows to use.

I went up to Cabelas in Noblesville this evening just to handle crossbows. It's amazing how much better some feel than others. I am not sure what I will do yet, but I will do something!

January 2019 I purchased a Wicked Ridge Ultra Lite made by Ten Point. I choose this crossbow due to my budget, it's lite weight, 150lb draw, company reputation, and good looks. The scope was a great asset, very clear and accurate. Cocking, aiming, and firing was smooth and enjoyable. Their Omni nock's work ok but some what of a pain to match their nocks with various different arrows, especially if you want lighted. I'm very satisfied with my purchase. Wish you the best of luck finding your new crossbow.

This is an old thread but, ironically, I have resurrected this old debate with myself. I am now more focused on Wicked Ridge vs Excaliber in the $1k or less range for my first xbow. If you have any new opinions, please share them!

You asked for opinions so I’ll give you mine. I have used an Excalibur 335 nightmare since 2015 and have harvested several deer and coyotes with it.The reason I went with the Excalibur was it’s simplicity. Theoretically you could change the string in the field if the need arose, kind of like working on a ‘55 Chevy versus a newer computerized vehicle if you will. At 74 years of age I have no problem cocking the bow with just a rope cocker. And you can decock w/ rope cocker without having to fire a bolt.

I ended up buying an Excalibur Micro Mag 340 this evening. I am going to buy the charger ext crank this week too. For anyone else who may find themselves in the same situation, this is why I ended up choosing the way I did. The Excalibur can be safely decocked without firing an arrow. The Ten Points in the $1,500 price range and up can do this with the Accu Slide technology too, but that is more than I wanted to spend. I like the fact that I can replace my own string and the torture testing that I have seen on the Excalibur is amazing. I am looking forward to the simple, reliable, and accurate setup that I have chosen. This package comes with their illuminated Tac-100 scope too, so that is also a nice touch.

Sounds like I have an interest in a company but actually just a happy customer. Have fun be safe and I look forward to hearing of your success with your new bow.

May I also suggest you check out the Excalibur forum, a lot of knowledge to be gained there.

Simplicity is why I went with Excalibur. Less chance of things breaking down.
