Anybody else think the herd is way down this year? I live in and hunt Parke County, me and two other guys hunt my ground and adjacent land, and we aren't seeing diddly. Been here 25 years and some years are better than others, but never this bad.
The cameras are not picking much up, we are not seeing scrapes or rubs, not hearing much shooting in the area either.
I keep a camera on a salt block in the woods near the house (not for hunting), and it is always a bomb crater with many deer visiting. Not this year, just one buck and the same 2 or 3 does.
Anybody else seeing this?
I talked to a guy that spends a lot of time on Raccoon Creek and Raccoon Lake, he said they were seeing dead deer around the water all summer. I just wonder if the blue-tongue was that bad..

In my area I’d say it’s up and looking better went from a two doe to a one doe and I’ve finally talked most of the neighbors in to not shooting everything walking

I personally do think in some areas the deer herd is down. I know around my area it is down. I did not see many deer while hunting or on my cameras during the archery season or even right now. I also did not see much sign as far as rubs and scrapes. I know of areas that always have perennial scrapes and there was none this year. I did find 4 dead deer of EHD and I am sure many more died as well. But then I found new spots to hunt about 5 to 7 miles away and there was ample sign and deer sighting. That is the thing about EHD it can hit an area hard then 5 miles down the road it has no effect. The herd will and always comes back in areas hit hard with EHD though. It just takes a few years.

no complaints in Tippicanoe county. cameras show plenty of deer and good spread across the buck age classes.

Seems normal to me. We've taken 5 off of our 75 acres.

In 6 deer hunts combining both archery and firearms, I`ve seen 16 deer to date. Well above what I`ve ever seen for an entire deer season, and we`re not even finished with firearms yet. I`m sure EHD hit some areas really hard, and it may even have hit eastern Putnam County, where I hunt, hard, but I`ve seen a lot of deer. I`ve heard a lot of gunfire as I`ve hunted firearms, and I hope everyone is getting tasty venison, and shooting whatever makes them happy.

I hunt in Washington, Harrison and Orange counties and all three have had good numbers of deer.
And this after the southern part of the state had a terrible drought and an EHD outbreak that had some people in a panic.

It would be inappropriate for me to make a claim to anything statewide or shoot even county wide.
I hunt primarily one county, but 4 distinctly different localized herds.
One is up for sure when comparing it to the last 2-4 years. This area however is not exhibited great fawn numbers entering the season.
Another is up as well, but with awesome fawn recruitment and honestly too many young bucks.
One is I'd say same as previous years.
Another I dont run enough cams and/or hunt enough to make a claim on.

The deer herd has been way down. Struck with disease. My farm in southern Illinois all the way to my home & land in warrick co. Indiana. Its unbelievable is all I can say.

Normal, I think. But I have no way to tell for sure when there are still giant fields of standing corn in the area. I've seen the sign for sure but not many deer while hunting.

Just a few years ago we were bringing in people to hunt at the farm to kill as many doe as we could because the herd was out of control. It was normal to see 15-25 in bow range on a hunt. Last few years just few here & there & mature bucks are non existent.

Fantastic year here in SE Indiana. Good numbers of deer and turkey. Freezer is full of venison. Can relate to all who were hit by EHD this year. It’s terrible with all the loss of deer. Lay off the trigger and wait a few years it will bounce back.

I would say my area in Marshall county is down slightly. The unfortunate part is there appears to be a slight decline each year over the past several years. It's been hard to judge this year, though, with how late the corn was still standing. There is still about 100 acres of corn still standing on the block I hunt. Each year I'm seeing fewer and fewer does which really has me concerned. The crazy thing is there really aren't many hunters that hunt near me so I don't know what is happening to all the does. This year was the first year anybody in my hunting party harvested a doe in 5 years. Not harvesting does hasn't seemed to help any so we decided to allow one doe per family this season.

Primarily hunted one property in Indiana due to a family disagreement. I hadn't taken a deer off this property in 5 years or so. I've seen deer every set this year so far except the very first time. Ample number of does and a 50/50 split on mature/immature bucks.

It has been slowly trending down for the last few years in the areas I hunt. I also haven't been seeing as many driving around in a lot of spots.
