I went into Walmart to get my deer licenses and told the cashier I wanted the firearm and bonus anterless licenses. She said "mot the bundle, you can get 3 deer with the bundle?". I said "no,I only get 2 here in Jay County since they dropped our quota back down to 1 anterless". She said "they did? well others are getting the bundle". I said "well I don't hunt archery and muzzle loader, just firearm". She said "well with the bundle you can hunt all the seasons and get 3 deer,1 antlered and 2 antlerless". I said "not here,we're only allowed 1 anterless". I got the book and showed her on the map where it says 1 for Jay County. She said "yeah they changed that a few years ago but with the bundle you can get 2 anterless". I said "yeah, but how much is the bundle?". She said "$67." I said "well these are only $48." It just wasn't sinking in to her head that the bundle license wouldn't override the County quota. Just because you can get 3 deer with it doesn't mean you can use them all in the same season if it was over the County quota and that I didn't hunt archery or muzzle loader.

You can still kill more than one antlerless if you hunt multiple weapons, but for you, two licenses is all you need for firearm season.

She may have been thinking you could kill more than one if you killed the second one in a different county?

And yet another reason we really need to clean up our regulations.
I'm glad most hunters (I truly hope most) are smarter than that cashier.

Well if she was thinking that gregr, she didn't say it. I told her I could get another antlerless in muzzle loading or archery season but I didn't hunt those, just firearms. I really don't think she knows the regulations, just going by the bundle could be used for all seasons and get 3 deer as if she didn't know each weapon season had it's own limits.

Just another reason to stop shopping at Walmart. I have not graced their stores with my presence since they stopped selling handgun ammo, and I have no intentions of patronizing their store in the near future.

The problem with our town though is that Walmart is the only place in the entire town to get groceries and a lot of other stuff they sell. We have a hardware store which sells some stuff Walmart has but it costs more. We also have 2 Dollar stores but that's it. When Walmart became a Superstore it ran our other grocery store out of business.

It's a real toss-up who you get ahold of when you buy a tag. Usually it's just whoever in a dwindling pool of employees that can operate the computer. When I sold them I tried to sell what people needed, but it could be hard. Bottom line, if it's legal and what they want, sell it and shut up.
Every year I got guys who still said, "I can't shoot a doe with a firearms tag? When did that change?"

Not sure how we can expect a wal-mart employee who may not hunt to understand the regs when it's too hard for many hunters to understand it.

However, I have not solicited information on hunting regulations from a Walmart employee for a whole lot of years.

Also a Walmart employee told me their policy is that they are not supposed to tell you what you need or suggest what to get. You must tell them what you want or need because too many people have got caught with the wrong stuff & said thats what Walmart employees told them to get.

I'm not going to give Walmart employees a tough way to go over this. As has been mentioned, a lot of hunters don't have a clue as to what license they need.
Truth be told, retail is a tough business to work in. You've got managers who will throw employees under the bus in a second to save their own skins, customers who apparently have had a perennial bad day ready to raise h*ll @ the drop of a hat, and employees who are sick and tired of people cussing them out. Throw in working nights, weekends and holidays for s*it pay, (plus constant turnover) and you wonder why customer service sucks in big box retail?
It's no wonder Amazon is taking over the world.

Erroneous info is, by no means, exclusive to Walmart. I've never been of a mind to look to store employees, of any store, as a source for license or regulations information. Several years back I heard a counter guy at Dick's explaining a CVA 30-06 muzzle loader to a customer. Kind of like me giving advice on open heart surgery- there are more reliable sources readily available.

Oh, don`t even get me started on some of the incredibly ignorant things I`ve heard gun-shop clerks say to customers. An awfyul lot of these guys should have a firearm, much less dispense gun advice.

I've been Walmart sober for a year now. Not going to walk to the end of the store for a cashier again.
