The desirable species go fast, so get your orders in. If the DNR runs out of something you want, Cold Stream farm will ship trees to you and pricing is reasonable.

Maybe next year. I had a decent open area on my place that the forest has reclaimed a lot over the past couple years. Hoping to get things together and spend a few days in the post season with the chainsaw clearing it back up.
It's pretty much right in the center of the place and some good mast bearing trees would be a good draw from all directions.

Do those Black Cherry trees produce a fruit that deer will eat? I doubt any will make it to the ground where the deer can eat it, birds will clean the trees out fast and don't park nearby.........

I planted a 100 a year for 6 years so 600 persimmon tress. I knew 70-80% wouldn't make it so I went with numbers. Get a dibble bar is your going to plant a lot

I have never gotten any from the state...but I have gotten some from MDC (Missouri Department of Conservation) they sell in smaller quantities and seem to have a better selection of shrubs.....which is what I was after. Another thing I have done and seen done before is see if you can find someone who has a tree that is producing and you can grow/plant your own. I have some sawtooth from a buddy in KS and I send acorns and pawpaw seed to folks every year as well.
