Anyone know when it is typically harvested in the northern part of the state? First year hunting over it for me so just wondering what to expect . Also, I understand the deer do eat it but only after it matures. Correct?

Could definitely be the case. I know they bed in it often. Will just have to see how it goes I guess. Just makes it a bit more of a hassle to get around the farm.

I am not familiar with it, but it's my understanding that the deer like it when it's in a "doughy" stage. Apparently the seed heads get a soft texture to them and they then dry from their (similar to corn). Depending on what they are harvesting the crop for....seed (seed heads would need to be hard) or forage (cut clean off at the ground level and they take everything based on growth phase). We have some of it here that is grown for chop.....it seems like they simply let it get to a certain growth stage and then they cut it. I also know there is several different varieties and the like so I am sure that all plays a part in it as well. Sounds like you need to chat with the farmer....might learn something or get some insight to tweak your hunting efforts. I am sure deer will bed in it just like they will corn....
