Not much information. My guess it was not standard crossbow. No safety latch etc.

Does make you wonder. I do recall following a group of trad shooters on the local range in a 3D shoot many years ago, and when our smaller group came up and stood a polite distance behind them as they shot, one of their guys, normally among their best shots, glanced an arrow off a tree on a target about thirty yards away. That arrow then hit at least two more trees glancing blows at just the wrong angles, and pin-balled its way around about 175 degrees of a u-turn, and stuck in the ground six feet to my right!
Shot 3D's since before they were 3D's, and that's the closest I ever saw to a self-inflicted accidental death by bow.
It would be good to know how it came about. Might be an important safety lesson to be learned there, but it's probably one that was already in existence, and was ignored.

Reminds me of the other 2 Kentucky stories I heard on Bob and Tom years ago. One was 2 guys got drunk and one decided to put an apple on his head and let the other shoot it off. You know that ending. The other the guy was looking through the end of his old side lock ML, Well he couldnt see light at the end so he fired up his lighter and put it at the end. You know end of that one.
