Hi everyone,
I just moved to Indianapolis last month, and am excited for the upcoming archery season! Been in AZ/TX the past 5 years, but am originally from WA, and do a lot of fishing and hunting in Alaska. Most recent hunt was a successful backcountry Dall sheep hunt with my buddy who lives up there. 14 days, over 70 miles logged, including a 33 mile packout with 90-100lb packs (not exaggerating, we weighed them). After doing that, I'm very excited to find a place to set up a treestand and wait haha. I also love fishing, especially salmon and steelhead, so will be going up to fish Lake Michigan tributaries occasionally.
I'm looking for a land lease somewhere fairly close to Indianapolis so I might be able to get some sits in after work (off at 4), so if you have any leads I'd appreciate the help! Will also post on other boards.
I'm always up to go fishing or hunting with others, don't know anybody here that likes outdoor activity so let me know if you're looking for somebody to tag along!!
Tim

Welcome. Hunting ground near Indianapolis is pretty tough to come by as there is a fair amount of suburban sprawl in the Indianapolis area.
Depending on how you define "close" it may not be out of the question, but you probably aren't going to be on the circle downtown and in a stand 30 minutes later. However, it does get pretty rural in several directions once you get outside the 465 loop.

Welcome to the site...but man are you in for quite a shock. What you are used to out west, is going to be VERY different here. First of all deer is the only big game species we have. We also do not have anywhere near the amount of public land available as well (Indiana is 95% privately owned). Even in rural areas here you are not going to find miles and miles of open country without roads. As such the hunting style is very different. It's mostly stand type hunting....which if you are used to spot and stalk type hunting is going to seem very boring. Deer hunting ground here is closely guarded and finding access to private ground can be a significant challenge. Good luck to you finding a place, but for the short term you may need to look into leasing....as it is gaining popularity here. Also consider that Indy area is full of hunters that want to hunt ground close by.....so there is a lot of competition for ground close to Indy.
