I do. Not to call them in but to bark at them to stop them for a shot.

I bought one about 25 years ago. Sadly, the only squirrel that got "taken" with it was yours truly! LOL!

Killed many a squirrel with the Mr.Squirrel whistle call. Had em come running through the trees from well over 100 yards away. For some reason I've never had a grey respond to it. Always been fox squirrels.

Never had much luck with the whistle.
Had a bellows call and it worked well even though it only sounded like a fox squirrel. Misplaced it several years back and have yet to replace it. Good for stopping a mover.

And getting back to dukes original post; It seems like I scared more squirrels away with my calls in the past. Come to think of it, I’m not even sure where they are these days!

Years ago I got one of those calls that you just bounced against what ever was handy. Worked a few times but figured out it most likely scared most of them off or made them lay low for a while out of sight. Then I got onto a weird way of calling. Wish I could remember where, but an old timer let the cat out of the bag. Made sense as you could do it with both hands on what ever you were shooting. It amounted to kissing the back of your hand with a sucking sound. Takes a while to get it right, but when you do you will be surprised. Had more than a bunch of fox squirrels get put in the pot when curiosity brought them down from the tree tops full of leaves which hid them seemingly forever. Gave up on shotguns when I was younger, and brought down many within rock tossing distance when I finally got them coming down the trunk looking for that strange noise. Practiced for a while with sub-sonic ammo which kept the noise down to practically nothing out of an old Winchester 67 that I put a scope on. Those shotgun loads and high velocity .22's make just way too much noise and can turn an area full of squirrels into a very quiet woods for a good distance from your position. Camouflage netting over an all around brim [think cowboy hat] with hole cut in for your eyes and off your face plus keeping those 'skeeters off your face makes for keeping your movement down to next to nothing.
And that rubber band that comes with the head net, cut it out and let the head net be loose and not tight around your neck. Just my own personal experience, and I use the same set up during deer season. Had deer come within a few yards of me and never knew I was there and down they went as they walked away from where I was sitting.

Was wondering how many people use one of these while hunting squirrel hunting? I have an old one, I think maybe it`s an "Olt"? But it`s exactly the type you have pictured. I`ve literally had squirrels scramble from many, many trees over and come to the tree I`ve been sitting against. Never had the call frighten one that I knew of, and at the very least, oftentimes, one would at least answer my call. I like mine and use it freely.

I have that same call. 99/100 times I will forget it at home. Can't say I've had much luck with it for the limited use I have.

I used a box call. Made out of wood and had a metal plate screwed on top of the box. I used a pen like device made out of metal that I dragged along the eldge of the metal plate. The striker had a rough surface to create sounds on the plate with the friction of the two metals rubbing together. Works good on the squirrels in the yard. You press your thumb down on the plate at different locations to change the pitch of the squirrel call. It was sold by Herters.
