The company I work for has implemented an App for any employee that drives a company vehicle. This App monitors our driving and we get a score on every "trip" we take. We get scored on everything from speeding to braking to swerving and many other control measures. The biggest issue I run into is the areas I must maintain a 55 mph speed on an interstate, typically around cities. Seriously...if you have never tried it, just try one time to drive 55 on 465! You're like a sitting duck!!! For instance, yesterday, as I was puttzing along in the right lane on 465 (SW Indy), I knew I would hit traffic on the merge lane from Kentucky to 465. I see a semi with the hammer down trying to get on so I slow down to let him in because I'll get dinged if I start speeding. That put me at about 45 mph. Meantime, I have a semi on my bumper, blaring his horn. He finally finds a slot to move to the middle lane and passes me. Still, he's blaring away, flipping me off, and then starts "shooting" at me as though his hand was a Glock 17!!! And what am I to do? Just drive along, seething, wishing I was in one of Cooter's old trucks (rigged with everything from improvised buzz saws to rocket launchers) from the Dukes of Hazard where I could show the ole semi a thing or two!!! Actually, I really don't blame the semi driver or anyone else that gets caught behind me. It's ludicrous to ask anybody to stay under 55 on raceways as such!!! What is a law abiding fella to do?!?!

I wish it was that easy! Unfortunately I travel throughout the Midwest, so it can be anything from Detroit to St. Louis, Chicago to Atlanta!

That's retarded that it's not the posted speed wherever you are. HELLO, our GPS tells the posted limits! Use the suggestion box! Lol

I've seen company vehicles with large stickers that say "speed monitored by GPS". That let's me know it isn't there fault they are driving slow.

I’ve put in a suggestion asking if I can affix a decal that reads something like, “My speed is monitored. Please don’t shoot me!” I’ve not gotten a response yet!

There are articles about going toooooo slowwwww. It is recommended that right hand lane should stay within 5 mph of the lane to the left and so on. I was watching a program and the safety IDOT officer stated to stay within 5 mph.
According to section 9-21-5-7 of Indiana vehicle code, “No person shall drive a motor vehicle at such slow speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic.”
Sec. 7 . (a) A person may not drive a motor vehicle at a slow speed that impedes or blocks the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with the law. A person who is driving:
(1) on a roadway that has not more than one (1) lane of traffic in each direction; and
(2) at a slow speed so that three (3) or more other vehicles are blocked and cannot pass on the left around the vehicle;
shall give right-of-way to the other vehicles by pulling off to the right of the right lane at the earliest reasonable opportunity and allowing the blocked vehicles to pass.
(b) A person who fails to give right-of-way as required by subsection (a) commits a Class C infraction.

That's completely asinine. I'd want to know if the president/VP/and all the upper management has the same thing on their vehicles.
Sorry, I'd be fired within a week. What are you supposed to do if the speed limit is 70+ mph? Drive 55? Nope, not this guy. Heck, there's even a stretch in Texas where the speed limit is 85 mph!

I need to clarify my original post. I should not have said 55 on any interstate. I need to maintain the posted speed limit. I was just using 465 as a reference as that is the craziest type of 55 mph slow driving. For instance, if I’m cruising down I -70 I need to keep it under the typical posted 70 mph!

So what has happened is you have fallen victim to our wonderful "punish everyone" society. More than likely some Yahoo that works for your company got nailed for being stupid in a company truck. So, instead of punishing him....like they should. They implement this policy that punishes everyone. Everywhere you turn today they want to punish everyone because of the stupidity of the few! I will almost 100% promise you those that drive company cars and the like are not bound by the same requirement....which I would certainly bring up! Those that make the policies seldom think they apply to them! What's good for the goose is good for the gander as they say! I agree with you that the daily indy 465 race that happens daily and in other cities all over the country is a matter of simply keep pace with traffic. Even if that means your 5, 10 or more over as long as you are alert and safe in doing so. You are a much bigger risk to everyone else if you hold the line on the speed limit....even in the slow lane. The police tend to be pretty understanding as long as your keeping pace....DOT...well, they tend to make their living being more "difficult" to reason with. I would certainly put a sticker on your truck stating that your speed is monitored by GPS to at least inform other drivers that your not just being difficult because you want to be. It boils down to punish the stupid/guilty...and leave the rest of us alone!

A buddy had the same thing on his work phone. He had me make a metal case out of 1/8" thick aluminum so he could put his phone in it and that would block the GPS signal. He didn't need to keep the phone in the case all the time, just for "certain" times. It was 2 years before he switched jobs and nothing was said in those 2 years and he never was warned. Another crazy speed zone is I-80/I-94 in the Hammond/Gary area. They have construction speed limit signs up and have had them up for the past few years with no construction going on. You'd get run over if you were going 55.

Those GPS systems on fleet vehicles are a great tool. You can monitor the miles and maintenance on vehicles, you can tell where someone is at all times, you can see if a vehicle is moving after hours, you can find stolen vehicles, and also monitor driving habits as mentioned. Our company gave a monthly award to driver(s) who showed good driving habits; no speeding, hard braking, erratic swerving, etc.

(b) A person who fails to give right-of-way as required by subsection (a) commits a Class C infraction. I have yet to see a piece of equipment (of any type; not just farm equipment) holding up traffic with a line of cars behind it get pulled over by law enforcement EVER, let alone get a moving violation for it!

I actually saw this on my way home from work a few months back. Lady was in the fast lane on 65 doing about 55 mph in a 65 zone. There was a long line of cars behind her, including an impd vehicle. She had multiple chances to get over and never did. The officer finally had a chance to get around and then pulled in right behind her and pulled her over. I can only presume that’s why she was pulled over, but I saw no other reasoning for it.

Around here the cops just go around them on the right instead of pulling them over for that.
