Good looking rack and about 4-6 more weeks of antler growing season.

I’m going to put some fluorescent masks out in the woods so the deer will wear them this season.

I`ve done nothing so far, but have a list prepared. Have to re-zero the .30-06, check out straps on the ladderstands, trim shooting lanes, put new rope in the pole saws, they`ve become terribly frayed, shoot the crossbow. Then of course, in late September, descent all the hunting clothes and gear, set up the table in the man's room where my deer mounts are, and gather all the deer grunts, binoculars, range finder, etc.
Once July rolls around, it`s time to get it on.

I scout right after season and then start August 1st. Just part of my tradition.

I mowed about 3/4 mile of trail today, mostly in the rain. Hauled over another quad pod stand, not sure where I'll put it yet.

Busy with hay but did venture out to refill corn/protein feeders and put out a couple trail cams overlooking them. Been seeing several very good bucks and also several fawns out with their mothers. Finally got a good soaking rain here in SE Indiana we were going on day 14 W/O. Definitely gonna green things back up. Hopefully we get some more this week.

I took advantage of the cooler weather last week to finish a two man stand and cut shooting lanes. It's getting so hot now, I don't really want to do much more until mid/late august. Then I plan on planting turnips and radishes.

I have a small gear list that I keep in my truck, I may buy things here and there but I really start to knock it out after July. Just a couple of things to buy this year as I’m going the minimalist route.

For me prep consists this year of FINALLY getting back in the freaking gym today after lockdown, drawing the tags I was looking for and some shooting over the summer to be ready. Maybe a little more work on the truck to have him in tip top shape for the coming season.

Illinois limited entry Wounded Warrior hunt, WY elk and pronhorn tags, along with deer and antelope draw tags here in CO.

The girls and I put the other quad pod out last night. Not sure if I'll keep it there, not much sign in that general area but there's a good long view and it's set for a west wind.
First time I had the half-ton all the way up the 2-track I made through the woods on the east property boundary. It fit, but still kinda tight in a few places! I mostly plan to take the Ford Ranger in, but the tower stand just wasn't going to fit in the little truck.

I moved another ladder stand to the new property today, set it on a bench near the west boundary/gravel road. Lots of old buck sign on that bench, rubs/scrapes/etc. I should be able to sneak right in off the road pretty easily.

Saw the eye doc today and will be getting cataracts fixed next month. So I'll be able to see while deer hunting. That's prepping for the season, isn't it? LOL

I've lost 21 pounds since February 1st. 4 more to go to reach goal. Getting close to season hunting weight. Looking forward to this year. The past two I've been way to busy. All my fault though.
