Looking good fella's, I haven't had any time to get back home as of yet. Have a Guam/Saipan work trip starting Sunday for the week, then the following week is family vacation to Disney World. Looking like I may not get back until the 1st week of October, so might bring my bow with me also. Would be nice to get in at least a little work around the hunting areas. Been living my life through you all as I say. Keep up the good work gents, SF Woody

After disking and seeding, I Had my grandson do a little soil packing with the Ariens on my property in southern Indiana. I didn't have time to get my friends roller. I hesitated to seed last night because I'd like to foresee a better chance of rain. But, my work schedule does not allow the flexibility. There seems to be a slight chance of rain this Friday and I'm hoping for the best. I purchased seed when Rural King had it on clearance sale this winter. I'm going to try 3 different "Flavors!" All Big Tine brand. Main Event, Last Stand and Buck Brunch. Shortly after we left, the deer came out to investigate!

Freshly tilled soil or piles of dirt are THE BEST deer attractant every time!

Freshly tilled soil or piles of dirt are THE BEST deer attractant every time! We tilled ours Monday and planted yesterday. Yep, lots of deer tracks and a couple turkey dusting bowls. Planted oats, cereal rye, radishes, turnips and clover. Soil was pretty dry, which made for great tilling. Now hoping for rain. 40% chance Friday.

Woody, do you plant all that together in a mix or separate out a couple areas for different seed?

We plant it all over the plot.. a mixture. I go a little heavy on turnips as a few years back army worms ate all the oats, but left the radishes and turnips.

As the week has progressed, it seems the rain chance for Southern Indiana has decreased. My property, between Columbus and Seymour looks to be less than 20%.

I went down to my brother'sfarm today. Next time will be hunt time around October 28th. The tree is cut down at new ladderstand and new trail to the other ladder stand. Big tree fell over old trail. Both cameras installed at the two ladderstands. I checked box stand and all good. I did remove 3 wasp nests. I picked a good spot for pop-up blind, but forgot to bring it. I'll pop it up 1st time out.

Tropical storm Francine may answer our prayers. As of now, rain forecast for Southern Indiana looks very good for substantial soaking rains. IF still have fall plots to do , bow is time to get seeded. (Oats, cereal rye, and wheat, especially) IF have a late frost turnips may have chance to mature yet.

We had zero rain since we planted last Tuesday. We need a good soaking. Speaking of turnips. I understand that turnips need a lot of sun to bulb out. My plot “might” get 4 1/2 hours of sun. I get good leaf growth but very little to no bulbs.

I have a turnip mix to overseed into some sparse areas of my brassica plot. I also intend to broadcast some more oats on a different section of the big plot. Plan is to do this Thursday night.
I got a notification that my chestnut trees have shipped, it would be nice to get them in the ground prior to the rains also.

Move rain track further west now. Ugh. Were still in the outer cone , Warsaw KY estimates as of noon were 1.5" for Friday. My farm apps says 1" for Friday, so looks like we should get some rain. Further N and E you go rain chances decrease.

I just dug 10 holes for my trees. Man, that ground is hard. Wound up pouring buckets of water down to soften it up.

It looks like the hurricane is moving Northeast in the gulf and might hit closer to the New Orleans area. Not the path they were thinking.
