Hello everyone, we have about two months before early teal season hits and I'm thinking of changing up the ammo that I use for waterfowl. I've been using Fiocchi for the past couple years and haven't really had any issues but since it's a new season it might be time for a new brand. What does everyone else use? I believe I started using the Fiocchi because it was the cheapest option possible.

Pattern the gun with the shells in the shot size you are going to use, AND at the distance you will be shooting. You'll be amazed at the difference between the different mfg's. in your gun.
Since I only have a 3" I found that Kent works well for me. BUT, don't buy a bunch without patterning them. I have an oddball barrel, it's 0.025" larger ID than the Mossberg 835, and it's still a 12 ga.

Heck I am still shooting the cases a Remington and Federal's I bought 17+ years ago. With the lack of waterfowl in Indiana I wouldn't drop a dime for a box of that expensive stuff. Fiocchi makes a good Pheasant load but still way over priced and in my opinion not any better than Remington.

The only reason I shoot factory waterfowl ammo is that I am not set up to reload 3" shells. I can beat the Fiocchi performance in their 2 3/4" pheasant load with my 2 3/4" loads.
Kent FasSteel 3" when it's on sale. #4's, #2's and BB's is what I use. I forget exactly what speed, but IIRC 1550 fps or more. I patterned the Remington stuff that is going faster and in my gun it patterned like crap.

The old experts that had the ink wore off are almost gone. Snow goose hunting helped that problem

Do any of you guys shoot TSS. That is what it first came out for water fowl until the turkey hunters found out about it

3” Federal black cloud bb’s out of a mid range tube all season from woodies and teal through honkers works for me. 7 expert steel that are usually left over from dove hunting for water swatting cripples if needed. Have some 3 1/2 “ bbb black cloud I use if I run out for late season geese. Good stuff. Prairie storm 5’s is a great wild pheasant load out of same choke.

I have a bunch of them (activ) in both 12 and 20 ga, but 2 3/4" and it's only because I shot a lot of shotgun games (12 ga). The 20 ga are just left from when I was tramping around in the desert after quail.

I was under the impression that it was Kent that purchased Activ. I used a LOT of their wads (T-42) for a load that I had. When they were bought out I scrambled and bought every one of those wads I could find. Still have about half of them squirreled away. www.refugeforums.com/threads/activ-shotshells-were-did-they-go.290328/

I was going through some of my Dads duck hunting equipment and found 10 boxes of Bismuth 12 gauge BB duck loads. Anybody know anything about these shells. They came in 10 rounds per box.

Bismuth was the first non-toxic replacement after steel. They were looking for something that had more density than steel and would retain energy further away. That was before they developed powders for steel loads that would get the high velocity needed without excess pressure.

I’m hearing great results on BOSS Shotgun Shells . All the shells are non-toxic loads and come in boxes of 20 not 25 . I hear that they are a little pricey but well worth the price. The Company is located in Michigan.

I’ve been shooting Hevi Steel for a few years. Sometimes if I’m feeling froggy I’ll throw in one shell of Hevi Shot ($5) a pop in the magazine. 😆
