Back in old Europe common folk used to use ferrets to hunt. A trained ferret will chase anything shy of a groundhog out of it's own den. I've watched videos of a ferret chasing a full grown racoon from a hole. The coon didn't even try to resist. Ferrets can be some mean little bas***ds, but they can be loads of fun as pets too. They have no fear of heights, and will climb ANYTHING, but they have issues going down. They will get themselves into places that they can't get down from without assistance, or injury. I've had a few pet ferrets, and they are extremely smart little critters. I recall reading in the regulations that hunting with ferrets in Indiana is illegal.

I hope you get it, they cause a lot of damage by removing dirt. Thanks. Me too. Trap is baited and out for the duration we are down here, but can't stay past the weekend unfortunately so I'm not too optimistic. Us being around is probably going to cause it to hunker down, but we will see.

You can buy predator urine cheaper than feeding a dog. But if you are looking for an excuse at a new dog then yea that’s the reason the critters ate there.

It's strange not having a dog after so many years, but can't deny it's a lot easier without one in many ways.

The more I see of some people, the more I like my dogs.

I think I'm going to pick up a couple of those and try that next time. I left the trail camera on the spot and he came out yesterday, but wasn't too interested in our bait. I sat out about 3-4 hours this morning hoping to shoot him, but no luck. Unfortunately, I can't get back down here for a while and I'm getting concerned about how long he's been under there and the damage he may be doing. I left some voicemails for some local trappers earlier today, so I suppose I'll see if someone can take care of it without breaking the bank before I can come give it another go.

If you go into Hoosier trapper and talk with Charlie or one of the other guys they will get you all set up with anything you need.

Update: I went to Hoosier trapper supply and got some advice and additional trapping materials. Thanks for the suggestion, got some very helpful tips and the taxidermy there was crazy good.
I've been down at my place since Tuesday night and have had a trap on the hole the entire time. No sign of it so far and last my trail cam picked him up was Saturday. It's weird.
I also looked all around the building and surrounding area for another exit hole, but didn't find anything.
So far the dirt squirrel is getting the better of me.

Maybe move the trail cam further away so I can see if he's grazing somewhere else.

I’d think about discouraging before killing Ground hogs are the only den digging animal we have Every thing living in a den uses their holes And their lifespan average is less than two years ! They are really our friends !!

They are really our friends !! Unfortunately, I can't risk it chewing through my plumbing and having to pay to bust up the concrete to fix it. I also don't want anything else taking over its den either and living under my barn or it having a litter in the spring if it's female. I suppose it could already be gone since I can't find any other holes (checked closely again this morning) and my trail cam hasn't picked it up since last Saturday, but I'm not that optimistic.
