Did the rules change. Seeing alot of pictures on Facebook of kids killing birds with .410 in Indiana. Regs say 20 but didn't know if rules changed and I just missed it

Wonder why a 410 wouldn't be listed?
Unless it's a Federal thing!

I've been using a 20 gauge with 7 shot hevi 13. I love the combo. It's a light youth model. I have killed birds out to 40 yards with it.

Still not legal in Indiana. That law needs changed..... unless some can come up with a legit reason not to change

I agree Greg. They’re killing them all over with that gun. Might as well make that an option here as well.

Would it be okay to allow a 410 but require the TSS shells, or is everybody okay with just allowing 410 and leave shell selection to the hunter?
What about shot size changes? Across the board or just the TSS. Personally, I'm thinking 00buck would do a number or a turkey.

If they allow folks to shoot them with bows then what make any difference what ammunition is used!
Don't believe there is any restrictions on using a bow other then using a broad head.
I would think the changes of wounding and losing a bird would greater with a bow.... IMO

I'm not familiar enough with .410 loads to say, but I would be surprised if the DNR would approve the .410, but only with one particular shell.

At a lot of blind/decoy distances any good .410 load can kill a turkey. Enforcement could be an issue on requiring only TSS Shot.

I'd be the first in line to use one. Problem is they'd have to do a combo change on the law. Allow the .410 and also allow shot size smaller than 7.5. I'm surprised 28 gauge is illegal also. My guess the 7.5 rule was put in place long before non toxic shot came out. I'm not 100% sure the patterns some are getting with the .410 are a direct correlation to being tss or just the amount of shot in a shell shooting 9's.
Okay so who do I have to pester to change the law.

This is from Al site I go to. shot two shots each and averaged. I’m not gonna bother posting pics because there are too many patterns to fool with. I believe if this gun had a tighter choke, it could do better. I’m not really wanting to shoot straight 10s because of the Potential of penetration issues, but straight 10s had a very good pattern out of this particular gun. Interestingly enough, most folks I talked to said straight 9s would pattern the best and were in fact the worst. Just goes to show every gun is different. I’m getting another choke for it, whoever can get me one first (Jebs, Indian creek, or trulock).
9.5x10 (121.5) 9x9.5 (150.5) 9x10 (130) 9’s (109.5) 9.5 (157.5) 10s (166.5)
Everything was done at 40 yards lasered, off sandbags at a shot trap. The load is Hal’s 370NM

Shane,
In my opinion it’s too late this go around. The DNR held their GotInput session last fall. That was the designated time to make public suggestions..
Of course with anything always start at the top..
