Greg, if successful, do you pick where you will be hunting and can you ensure you will be hunting with a buddy if both of you get picked?

Draw odds are something like one in 800. I don't think it's likely that a guy and his buddy would both be drawn.
I don't know about the area selection, back when I used to apply you just chose sex and weapon. I suppose the area gets sorted out after the draw.

The reason why I asked is that when I was applying 10+ years ago there was no provision for applying as a "group" or "party", AND if you were drawn, the State put your name back in a lottery to get your hunting area drawn. You didn't have a choice where you were going to hunt. My neighbor lived there for years and still has lots of friends there. There is no way either of us by ourselves would be able to get an Elk out by ourselves. So without the possibility of even drawing a tag in an area that he had friends to help we stopped applying. No preference point system then either, strictly luck of the draw.

Still luck of the draw and I’m not sure about the area picks either. . I know two guys from Indiana that have been picked. One of them twice.

I don't think there is an option to apply as a party since so few tags are given out.
I stopped applying due to the abysmal draw odds.. But if any H-I members draw I'll happily tag along and help pack meat.

Like winning the lottery if you draw. Here’s wishing all who applied a little luck.

Like winning the lottery if you draw. Here’s wishing all who applied a little luck. I’d almost rather win this than lottery cause I’d win the smallest lottery jack pot on record and what’s the odds of winning twice when you can’t even match two numbers most times I play
