So posted this in ask a co forum but like to get some opinions on this...
As I understand the law, no license is required to carry while legally hunting. I'm sure this is going to fall under the grey area but would "legally hunting" also include dog running when no kill season is in?
Yes I know I need to get my ccw but just never got around to it.

Go ahead and get your CCW, and while you're at it go for the Lifetime. Yes it's more expensive but look down the road. Once you get it, you never have to go through the trip to wherever you have to go to get it. And make some copies [forget what the rules say]on the same color paper, "sign all of them", laminate all of them, put one in your wallet, and store the rest of them along with other valuable papers.
I remember awhile back on a forum, a poster went through this routine, had one for his wallet, four for his backup, then suddenly realized he had forgotten to sign all of them. He had to go through the routine all over again.
You can't tell the difference of my original that I got back in the mail from the copies I made. Even showed all of them to some LEO friends of mine and asked them to pick out the original. They couldn't, looked all the same to them.

I'm getting my ccw but it was just a question I had in the meantime. I don't normally carry but the coyotes are getting a bit brave some of the places I run dogs.

If you have a paper copy you can still get a hard copy but it costs a little and I believe they run another check on you.

Hunting is actually listed as chase or pursue. I believe one must posses a valid hunting license to run dogs even when a kill season is not in. To me, you are legally hunting and can carry a handgun.
But I've been wrong before.

My thought would be that the handgun was, per that law, to be used in the hunting season to hunt what was in season; not for protection. No hunting season= no handgun carry without a proper handgun license.

It took me less than 1 week to get my lifetime permit. I was shocked with how fast it was.

Not saying the state will, but look at lifetime hunting licenses. In my opinions it's not that far of a jump to go from hunting to carrying. Apply and get it that way it's one less thing to kick yourself in the future for. Besides might save you a little bit of headache if a LEO does want to apply the heat to you.

www.in.gov/isp/2829.htmIt's been a few years since I did it, but first you fill out your application online. Then you go get finger-printed, when I did it there was an old lady that had rented the company concourse building in Bedford for the day. Last, you go to your local police department for an "interview", pay local fees, and walk out with your permit. I was told that it's either the sheriff's dept., or municipal police if you live within city limits. Mine was tricky b/c city limits come up partway into my yard, so my mailbox and like one acre along the road are city, my house and the rest of the yard is county. Bedford police dept. took care of me though. I'm thinking it took 2-3 weeks for me, but that was because I had to wait a week or 2 before the old lady came around to do the fingerprinting.

Times sure have changed for the better. When I got my life CCW license in 6/2009 I had to call the Sheriff's office and make an appointment. I showed up, filled out some forms, got fingerprinted and then was interviewed by the Sheriff. Several weeks later I got my license. The review process was pretty quick because I had a CCW license that was expiring. No online process then, at least to my recollection, which can be unreliable at times.......

I BELIEVE when I got my lifetime permit, I had to make an appointment somewhere to get fingerprinted. They said they don't do that at the Sheriff's office!

What's the protocol for getting your permit. Sheriff office or do I have to go to state police post? Go to the Indiana State Police website. There is a link on the home page that clearly explains the entire process.
