I found a patch growing in an old abandoned cemetery in the woods. I picked 8 or so.

Yesterday,
I checked the patch of woods next work then stopped at Morgan Monroe state forest on my way home from work, looked around for 30 minutes got into bargersville and felt something working it's way on my forearm hair. Big tick. I grabbed it and threw it down on the floor mat then I pulled over and dumped the mat unable to confirm it was gone I did see a smaller one fall, I checked my Jean legs and found one sitting tight in a crease at my boots. Drove home stripped down and found a little tick right above my knee.
I guess I need to at least get some spray if I do quick checks. Sawyer's is on the list this weekend for me and my son's turkey clothes!
Talk about having the heebie jeebies still today! All my years in the woods and I've never found ticks on me.
What are these so called morels you guys hunt. I have not had any luck searching woods. I found some huge ones in my uncle's yard one year under a hickory tree, one was almost comparable to a 20 oz bottle, but he sold that house.

I know very little about them... I just know that they taste good. I also know that they tend to show up in the same places every year so folks get pretty protective of their shrooming grounds. You get a good stretch of warm weather in April and you could be in business. My folks have them grow basically in their yard. The "old timers" used to tell me to look for rotting elm trees as a good place to look for them. I typically step on several before I find one!
A perfect spring day starts off with gobbles in the not too far distance and bagging a limb hanger tom, then you wander around the woods and find a few morels and maybe a deer shed. Spend the afternoon finding and keeping a few crappies and you have fresh crappie, some turkey bites and morels for dinner! If you can get the stars and moon to align and pull that off....you just had the best day ever a spring outdoorsman could ask for.

To be clear the woods next to work is owned by MTI, I talked to the owner a month ago and asked to look for morels in trade I'm picking up trash the employees and truck drivers have thrown out (to make clear truck driver trash = bottles of pee, trailer lock ties etc.). A few employees already have deer hunting rights so I skipped on that. Maybe picking up the trash may better the possiblity down the road of asking for hunting permission.

Those filled bottles are called trucker bombs to be technical.

Typically Big Red and dark colas dont fade to a washed out mellow yellow. But he found every one of them

Trucker bombs everywhere. I'm impressed some of those guys can throw pretty far.

Finally found some. After hitting my best spots and finding very little I was going to call it quits and was about back to my three wheeler when I spotted one on the side of a spoil. Went over to get it and stumbled into a honey hole. Picked 4 lbs in about 10 minutes all in that one spot.

What is a good way to store them for a week or two, just freeze them?

What is a good way to store them for a week or two, just freeze them? YES, I cut them in half length wise, wash them, then spread them out on a cookie sheet and freeze them. Once frozen you can gently pop them off the cookie sheet and put them in zip-lock bags and freeze them for how ever long.

Checked Morgan Monroe the same areas as last time and a little further in down by a creek in a ravine after work. No go. No luck on any turkey sign either. I am considering hunting this property for an hour or two before work next week after I get this new containment resolved. So many access points I wonder how crowded it will be down there.
My plan is to get there at sun rise stop a few places and listen for the birds if nothing Then head to work.

I drove through the northern part of the forest Friday evening and didn't see too many vehicles parked anywhere. Didn't hear any gobbles either but I didn't stay in any single spot for too long. Most of the pull offs had fresh tire tracks but this time of year it's hard to tell if they were turkey or mushroom hunting.
