Any hearings happening this year for the natural resources commission?
Went to one last year about the proposed bobcat law change, it was better than cable.

The commission meetings are held every other month. They likely won't be discussing bobcats this year.Future meetings are listed here: www.in.gov/nrc/2350.htm

There is also an Advisory Council meeting scheduled sometime next month and Natural Resources Commission meeting in May that will discuss several items including adding grouse to the state endangered species list and outlawing padllefish harvest by commercial fishermen. Some good things for Hoosier outdoorsmen.

Greg - I actually don't. I have an email that's not available to the public yet. There may not even be an Advisory Council meeting and if not the May agenda for the NRC would dictate the topics for discussion.

Agenda for the NRC meeting next week. Looks like tree huggers are trying to turn several state forests into state parks which might mean no more hunter access. www.in.gov/nrc/2354.htmJack

Salamonie River State Forest and the Frances Slocum State Forest would both become state parks and transferred to parks division.

Seems they found a new tactic to "save the trees"

I would expect at least 100 treehuggers at this meeting. Subcommittee has already ruled against this action.

Meeting today .... If Pittman-Robertson funds have been invested in these properties, then hunting will have to be allowed or the state will have to refund millions to the federal government.

The NRC denied the conversion of these into state parks. Room was packed...for both sides. Good turnout by sportsmen.

The NRC denied the conversion of these into state parks. Room was packed...for both sides. Good turnout by sportsmen. Then we all need to keep a close eye on future legislation. They will find a sympathetic legislator that will introduce a bill to cover this. IF the PR money expenditure argument is valid in forcing hunting on expenditure property, we might want to reconsider transferring some of those funds towards the State Park system. Turkey season (even if on a draw system) could be very good on state parks. Maybe open some of the back country park grounds to archery deer season. They could even set annual quotas if there becomes a concern for population.
