Instead of live from the stand, I bring you the not as exciting “live from the Desk”. I’m a senior in high school this year and while I have gotten a few college acceptance letters; I still feel the need to be on the school grind. Now I am aware that senioritus is a thing, but I have a personal rule that I don’t allow myself to go hunting unless I’m doing great in school. If I’m doing particularly well I’ll even let my self skip a few days to go out with my dad provided I don’t fall behind. But at the moment here I am doing my 2nd Year IB Physics homework during open study wishing I was out in my own stand or blind or even just sitting on a bucket wishing that I was out hunting. Anybody else wish they out hunting instead of being stuck with school or work for that matter.

There are certain days after a front as moved through etc. that I have found myself wishing I wasn't at work. 5 more years and I'm calling it a career; seems like a long way away some days! Then all you younger guys need to keep on working. I need my SS and Medicare!

Being stuck with the chance to get a good education is a great opportunity the have. Get a good education it will help you land a great job and have the $ to enjoy the out of doors. Wild life will always be there.... if you can afford it.

I always tried to get all of my work done at school, during study halls, lunch, etc. so I could get out and hunt afterwards and not have to worry about it. I also knew which classes I needed to pay attention in and which ones I didn't, and would often do work for one class while sitting in the other.
By college, I was often toting textbooks and notes into the woods with me. You can set up a pretty nice little office in a 5'x5' ground blind.

When I have an essay I need to write. I will bring an iPad along with a camo wrap: That I use for turkey hunting, and I’ll wrap it around my stand then I’ll silently type out my essay. I also prefer to bring an extra sweatshirt when I go out really early so I can use a dim light and read some Tom Clancy while I’m waiting for first light. If I’m hunting from a blind I’ll just bring my homework that I have to do on paper. As I see it I’m going to college to get a good job so that I can one day have my own private land I can manage and hunt that way I don’t have to put up with the struggle that is public hunting.
