I know I am really hyped up. I have been getting some really good trail cam images from a tree a plan to climb overlooking a good meadow with some nice thicket every so often. Wish I could’ve hunted it with my bow, but I didn’t want to see deer and not be able to shoot. Times I’ve got 4 days off planned this November so I can hunt with my grandpa. Who else is ready? Team 13 hope you all are ready to put the smack down on a nice one; cause I got a few I want to put my crosshairs on.

I'm still good with archery season; it's actually my favorite part of the fall. Now I'm no saying there haven't been years where I haven't been waiting for gun season to reach out and touch one that has been teasing me all October!

I’ve come to like archery season now that i am physically able to pull back a legal bow. When I was younger my dad borrowed my uncle’s compound bow so that I could use one weekend. I still remember the big buck that came out of the timberline right in front of me and the sight of it running away as soon as he heard me not successfully pulling the bow back. I also like how I don’t have to go that far back into the woods because hunting pressure is still light. Now that being said I will go back deep but I am certainly not going back there just to drag a Doe all the way back I’m leaving there with my antler tag filled.

Just curious, at what yardage do you all sight in your rifles in at? Sighted my .243 in at 175 yards this weekend. 175 because that's was my limit on my property do to the corn still being up.
Always like opening weekend of gun. Be my 33rd opening day.

Depends on the cartridge and distance I plan on shooting.. Both .30/06 rifles and both .223s are at 200, .450 BM 150, .357 Mag 100, 12 gauge slug 100, .300 Blackout 100, .22LR at 50 yards. I had to write down what distance and which rounds everything was sighted in with as I was having trouble remembering.
Edit: .177 and .22 air rifles at 25 yards.

I have a love/hate relationship with firearms season. I love being able to increase my range and being able to hunt other areas because of it. I hate the foot traffic in the woods that comes with firearms season. Archery season (the first part) tends to be a more relaxing type of hunt as there are fewer folks in the woods and things seem more natural. Firearms season brings lots of people in the woods so patterns get all screwed up and then at times it literally sounds like hunters are shooting at each other!

I wouldn't bat an eye if I woke up one day to find out firearms season was cancelled.

I love every deer season, archery, firearms, muzzleloader. I`d hunt them with a slingshot if it was a season and they had enough kinetic energy to make a humane kill. When I first began deer hunting 30-some years ago, all I hunted was the general firearms season. It took a while before I got into muzzleloading and then archery. I love archery and muzzleloader seasons, but man, I`ll just never lose that thrill the night before, and opening morning of firearms season. It`s better than Christmas!
I hunt alone now that my buddy moved to Tennessee, and that takes a little luster off opening morning, but I`ll still be out there early, November 17th, either in a ladder stand or a ground blind. I`ll be texting my friend, giving him all the details as they unfold, just as I did with the great archery buck I killed. If not before then, hopefully I`l be able to anchor a doe that I will gift to he and his wife. That way he`ll still have just a little of the flavor, if you will, of a Hoosier deer season.

I'm after a big buck now, want to be sure I have enough gun Actually it's because I've never had it out hunting

I think...I need to go back and check the notebook I keep with them. It details all pertinent sighting-in information such as load/bullet, bullet weight, zero distance, etc. Glad this was posted as I have the time right now to refresh myself with this information.

Nothing like opening morning when you know everyone that it is hunting your area, and you hear that first shot gun blast (you know the one that makes you shake in your stand) the anticipation of finding out what they shot is priceless. Those are the memories i look forward to on opening day.

Yep this will be hunting season #30 and i still love the anticipation of opening day !! If I can get out, this will make 29 straight years of hunting the opening day of IN firearms season. I have every intention of being in the woods, however I have a close family member that is battling cancer. I have absolutely no idea what will happen in the next few weeks.
