Enjoy, I have become the biggest fan of cast iron cooking.
I have always thought that I made a pretty darn good steak on the grill until a friend showed me how to cook a steak in a cast iron skillet and now there is no going back.
One piece of advise always make sure you cast iron is as hot as you can get it.

Great job cleaning, what did you use? A battery drill with wire wheel,an abrasive wheel (not grinding or cut off) for angle grinder and sand paper. Then wash good,heat dry then oil and back on Heat to burn oil in. I oiled each 3 times and heated/cooked the oil in on a burner on the grill. That way no smoke/smell in the bouse. Oh Ya a bunch of elbow grease.

Are there any markings on the skillet? I will have to check but it looks just like the one I got from my grandmother after she passed.

Are there any markings on the skillet? I will have to check but it looks just like the one I got from my grandmother after she passed. One has a # 8 on the Handel the other has a large 7 and then a small 2 in a squire on the bottom

They sat a good month before he said he wanted them and a good month after until we could get together to exchange. Not one hour after they were gone I was talking about needed something for the smoker I'm building to put the wood chips in. Wife says, one of them pans would've worked. Yes dear, thanks for the help. Yes you. An cook in them. After cleaning they are down to naked cast iron and no gunk on them to worry about. After seasoning them they are just like any cast iron you have in the house. I was going to fry a hamburger in one last night but never got around to it. I am glad I got them befor the smoker. Between discovering a good cast iron skillet and my new (bigger) smoker, the grill hasn't been lit in probably two years. It will go to the dump in a few weeks as I prepare to paint the freaking deck again. I have bought both cheap and quality grills and always end up being disappointed. One trick I have found for cooking steak in a skillet is to dice up some GOOD bacon and start cooking it a few minutes before adding the steak. Everything is better with bacon, including steak. I say GOOD bacon because most of what is available around here is tasteless crap. I stick to Wright's. It's costly, but worth it to me. Our new home that I am getting ready to start will have a 36" gas range for the cast iron skillets and screened porch for the smoker to occupy. I may buy a portable tabletop grill for the occasional hot dog meal and taking hunting, but that's it. Smoke it or fry it for me from now on.
