So help me out here. Thinking, just thinking about getting a crossbow. I love shooting my bow but it's gotten to a point that just don't have time to shoot like I want to. What is the difference between crossbow a and b. Both shoot same fps but one is $400 the other is $1200. Whys the $1200 crossbow $1200. What am I paying for?

Quality..
Most of the $400 bows are “imported”

I've killed quite a few deer with crossbows that cost under $400. They didn't seem to notice.

If you have any desire to get one the one Woody posted is a real bargain. If I was in the market I would have already jumped on it. I really like my Invader

Get the one with the best, hopefully lifetime, warranty. Limbs have a habit of breaking.

I would stick with one of the USA or Canada made companies. Wicked Ridge/Ten Point or Excalibur would be the ones I would reccomend looking at first.

I just bought my first Crossbow last year. It was a Barnett Whitetail II and I couldn't be more happy. I paid $329 for it and it came with a scope that worked perfectly. I have a target with a bulls eye about the size of a silver dollar. I have only shot it up to 40 yrds. But with a rest I can put every bolt inside the bulls eye or pierce the edge of it. And Amazon said it was made in the USA but I cannot be positive about that.

A crossbow is just like any other weapon out there. You can use a $200 mossberg 500 slug gun or you can use a $1,000 dollar weatherby rifle with a $1,000 nikon scope on top of it. Is one "better" than the other? The deer don't care.
The more expensive bows tend to be more "refined" - they tend to be more balanced, quieter (still louder than a regular bow), and a smoother trigger. Just like with anything - in some cases your buying a name. Hopefully that name means customer service should you need it. Is a Barnett at $500 really that much better than a Raven at $2,500 (and yes they do make them)? if your not sure you will enjoy a crossbow, start with an entry level one and move up as you would anything else. You can jump right in at $1,000....but what if you hate it? Shooting a crossbow is different and can take some getting used to.
Deer can't read - use/buy what works for you and your situation.

Wicked Ridge is likely the best crossbow for the money available. Quality made, great customer service, and functional. I`ve had my Wicked Ridge Invader for five deer seasons and it`s fast, accurate, and I have great support if I need it from the manufacturer. I think when I bought it, I got the entire package for something like $489.00, off Amazon, and the newest Wicked Ridge Invader doesn`t cost that much more from Amazon today. I guess the long answer is, for not a lot more than $400.00 you can get a really fantastic package made by Wicked Ridge, that is quality, has excellent customer support and service, and is proven in the field.
