I’m settled in waiting for some gobbler music
No fog today. Nice clear morning. Maybe this will fire them up?

Had 4 different ones gobbling this morning. Sat in a corner I’ve watched one go into Saturday and yesterday. Hens followed script, but no gobbler as of yet. Did just have an eagle fly over too.

Slow morning...
I heard one gobble ..once about 100 yards east of me. I hit the slate with a few yelps. No answer. Three minutes later out strolls a strutter headed for the decoys. He is now riding home with me.. 😄

I only had a couple hours yesterday afternoon before I had to get the dogs to the rabies clinic, didn't see or hear anything. I'm back at work again today, I have tomorrow off though and plan on hunting from sun-up until around 2 or 3 PM.

Once the toms flew down its been very quiet. Did have another hunter working his way towards me from another property, so I’ve moved to the blind now.

In hunting what a difference a few seconds make… Yesterday I was in my blind from 5 until almost noon. Saw one hen and heard zero gobbling. Woodmaster was in his blind from 5 am until 7 PM.. 14 hours… he saw two hens and heard zero gobbling. This morning we both got in about 5 am… About 6:15 or so I thought I heard a very faint gobble… I texted Woodmaster and asked if he heard it or was it just wishful thinking on my part? He said it was probably wishful thinking.. About ten minutes later I did hear a distinct gobble that sounded like it was a 150 yards or so away to my east on another property. I hit the slate call with a few yelps and got back nothing.. silence.. I thought I’d wait and call again in about 10 minutes or so. 5 minutes later in strutted a gobbler off that property.. He was headed right for the Avian X ¼ strut jake and an off brand feeding hen ( my Avian X feeding hen is in the hospital ) I hurriedly put on my muffs and eased the 870 up. He did not act like he was going to come out of the strut so I went ahead and shot him at 30 yards. He is a 2 year old with a 9 ¼” beard , ¾” spurs and weighed 23.5 pounds.. I’m happy. Woodmaster hunted till noon today and did not see or hear a bird. Before seaon we had them all over us..now..they are few and far between...

Was wondering on a morning like this morning how far do you think you can hear a tom gobbling off the roost

Was wondering on a morning like this morning how far do you think you can hear a tom gobbling off the roost I guess it depends on the terrain.. Lots of open area you can hear a long ways. Thick woods not near as far.. Wind was not a factor at all this morning. Just a slight breeze where I was at. Me? I have hearing loss (I wear hearing aids) so my hearing them is pretty limited anyway.. Even with that I have problem hearing a bird at 200 yards on a day like today....

So... which would you have enjoyed more getting a turkey or if the bald eagle had swooped in and snatched the turkey from in front of you?
