I got a BIG TOM in neighbors field with 3 hens. With my naked eye I can see his beard at 235 yards away. If I would have got there 30 seconds sooner I could have got a shot at him before he went to the neighbors field. I got to the field where I missed him and he was about 70 yards walking away from me so I backed up and went around to try and cut him off but he was in the other field before me. After watching them it was the tom I have been after and they were 2 hens and a Jake not 3 hens. About 7:10 they went into the woods and I called it a day. On the walk back I went they way the Tom went and I found 5 dusting spots freshly used. It down poured yesterday and if they were old would not have had tracks in them. Gonna get out asap tomorrow after work and set up by the dusting spots.

Longest hunt I've ever sat for a turkey today. Way too warm! Never saw or heard a thing.

Called one from atop a ridge about 400 yards away, came down hill, across 400 yards of field, 150 yards into the woods to 30 yards, had him in the scope and missed. Man they can launch themselves quick for a big bird. Only second I've ever missed. No idea what happened. No bb's in any brush in front, behind, or either side. Only thing I can think is there was a dirt mound in line with the barrel that didn't show up in the scope. Got a good laugh. Get to keep hunting them. Did get everyone else tagged out that wanted to go.

Having never been down this disappointing turkey road before, I decided to mix it up a bit on this Parke county property today. We've got hens as I've seen a few this season. We've had a good number of gobblers on our cameras throughout the year. I have only heard one gobbler (one occasion) in 5 hunts. So today I decided to stalk to the very north edge of our woods. Sat and called softly at first. Nothing. Then I hit my custom mouth (diaphragm) call. Yelped like I was calling one in from the next county. Nothing. I then decided to cut down to the south end of our property and did the same sequence. Maybe even a bit more aggressive. Nothing. This is approximately 60 acres. Roughly half timber and the other half newly planted corn field. Now we're into the middle of the afternoon and I decide to just set up in the middle of the property. Put out a hen and jake decoy and kicked back on the ground. Intermittently I called with the wingbone, mouth and slate. Yelped a few times but mostly stayed with some soft clucks and purrs. Nothing. Here's the set up mid afternoon. Sat that way til the eve. Open to suggestions as I'm not too old to learn something here:

Cotton: learn to except defeat and start planning for next year and keep this in mind ( YOUR NOT HALF THE MAN YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE).
It could be worse you could be going fishing next week with Schall53 and have to listen to his stories about how he went 3 for 3 for 3 in 3 different states.
We could start a support group and judging by the harvest reports we would have a packed house.

Was out feeding the ducks and chickens last evening and heard a gobble. Took a couple more times for me to figure out it was on our property. First one I’ve ever heard on us in the spring. It was nearly closing time. I ran and got my gun, threw on some camo, and headed to the creek bottom. Figured out where he was and belly crawled to a big dead tree. I was just a little too late. Time was up and he was already in a tree. Gonna just hope he is there Sunday evening if I don’t get one tomorrow morning.

Sounds like one gobbling on the next property. Hard to get closer due to a house between us. I don't really want to chance spooking him either because according to the owner he's been in a good evening pattern for the last few days. I've got all day.

Well, this was a way different hunt for me, but it was an experience, to say the least! 4:00PM: My wife gets home from work, I already have the car packed and ready to go. 5:30PM: I get to our lease in Switzerland Co. While driving through the farm, I see a large tom in full strut in a field with at least 3 hens. 5:33PM: I buy my license online and get dressed. 5:40PM: My dad drives me back down the road to the field edge, I get out and start stalking down the fence row. 5:45PM: Big bird down! 11" beard, both spurs are 1-5/16"!!!

Heard one gobble way off. May be another one of those mornings. Have to take grandson to his ball game so can't stay really late this morning. Mom and grandma are sick; too bad as my wife was going to go to Atterbury to that women's shoot today

Can’t get out this morning! 3 grandsons with baseball games starting at 8 am and then I help my son who runs a solar car race outing for kids with His Cummins engineers. He runs it and I emcee the event. So, maybe I can get out later this evening? Maybe early tomorrow morning?
