MAN! I would have thought a full choke 12 gauge at 25 yards with a 3.5 load of anything would have dropped that bird.

First time out yesterday evening. Got to the edge of the field at 6:20 and 2 turks in the field. The same one that I have been after. He is always with a jake and sometimes one hen. Crawled on my belly to get behind a tree laying prone. Jake was 150 yards South of me and Tom was 100 yards west of me. I know he will run if I use the hen call so I tried the gobbler and it drew him within about 25 yards. Seemed like he was going to get closer but gave him a shot and WTH!! missed!! Evidently The IC choke is not tight enough for 3.5" #6 out to 25 yards. I thought the choke that was in there was tighter pattern than that. I couldn't find my full at the time. So was done by 6:30. Mad at myself for not letting him get closer or finding my full choke. Should have just drug out the old SP-10 and been done with it but wanted to get a kill with the new shotgun. Hopefully there are some other birds around. That big tom seems to have been keeping the others off his land. Cant find the full choke. It's time to go buy a super full and pattern it. What kind of ammo exactly were you using?

Quiet except for the wood peckers and other birds making noise.

All set up. No gobbling yet. Farmer was out here yesterday around 4:30 planting beans. Not sure how late he was here. As I'm typing this the first bird just sounded off!

Good luck Brandon! Out here in Parke county and just had a few deer cross the newly planted corn field. Something is just very different here on this property. I’ve not heard a single gobble. Not even a distant gobble. Never in my life have I hunted this hard for a turkey!

Sorry to hear that Larry. Hopefully they move into your field. Seeing sign? Tracks?
I had two hens pitch into the field. One directly in front of me and the other north east of me. The toms went with the one to the north east. One out front is still clucking and yelping though.

Not much sign. Just had a lone yote stroll across the field. I know that is a problem. We just put cameras up last week but haven’t had a chance to check them yet. I think I’d have had better success if I could’ve hunted Laporte more but family and work schedule does not work for that.

Your not missing much up here in LaPorte county, all these guys trying to win a turkey hunting contest have shot up all the birds.

This morning and tomorrow are my last chances. The birds have moved off this field so I think I'm going to move as well.

Well I had a fun stalk anyhow. Had one keep firing up in a hay field but wasn't really moving for about 30 minutes. I decided to get after him. The birds are marked by a turkey track. The red line is where I moved on foot and crossed the fence. The green line is where I began the Mohican sneak (crawling) and the blue dot is where the hen busted me. Just 20 yards through the brush. Didn't get a shot off but I had a darn good time trying! Storms were moving in so I boogered out of there.

When it was high it washed alot of sand onto the bank and they have been dusting themselves in it. I'm not to excited about turkey now after missing the best chance I will have this year. I can only get out in the afternoon as This last weekend I have to work so no mornings for me.
